That sounds absolutely brutal! In honesty I don’t think I could push myself to that, I absolutely hate high reps
Anything over 5 is cardio
High reps are the true test of will… Yesterday a set of 100 walking lunges with the 10 kilos DBs…
But yeah honestly the Leg Press was fine even though my quads were trashed after the set of 35, but the squats oh boy… I waited 7 or minutes between sets 2 and 3
Hardest I ever trained was the 15 strongman contest days I had.
It was about impossible to train 5-events in one day and I never used the contest weight in training on more than 1event in training in 1-day.
I also only weighed 185# against the 200# class, so everyone was like 205-215 contest day.
5-events maxed out in a 4-5 hour period (back then we went 1-at a time).
I remember a girl I knew came out to see me at the contest and she gave me a massage afterwards and she was like “damn, I feel every single muscle in your back is pumped, like a bodybuilder” I didn’t look nothing like one. I could also feel the pump too, all night long.
The next I always felt like I got hit by a truck!
Exactly. We were held together by athletic tape, ibuprofen (with tampons up our noses because our blood was thinned out so much) but we kept hammering. Most of us had strep throat and a host of illnesses by the end of the season. I remember winning a home match the collapsing at the edge of the mat. I had a 103 fever and the medics sent me to the local small ER. I was back on Monday (Friday match). ![]()
What unit or indoc was it??
Apologies: that was Junior high/High school wrestling🤣. The “closest” I came to serving was 4 seasons as a wildland firefighter. I did have the privilege to be on the largest fire in the lower 48 in 2000 with Marine reserves.
Solid stuff… 03??
I know exactly what you’re talking about, I used to compete too.
The pain the next day is crazy, like you say it’s the full body!! I remember after 1 competition and the pain that night running from my groin right down to my feet was horrendous, could not sleep.
Was well worth it for the buzz though
@DORITO the first time I carried a 700+ yoke the full distance without dropping it in a comp (plus we had a tire flip in that medley after the yoke) I had a sore throat for an entire 30 days.
I also got my feet wet before my first contest at a pro strongman’s house, his yoke was homemade and weighed around 700# EMPTY I lifted it until I couldn’t anymore, my spine was actually sore from it and 5 days later I turned my head with my spine still sore and felt a pop, my mid back was in pain for 6-months. It actually healed up 100 percent the week after a comp.
It’s really crazy how the body can respond.
Truck pull is probably the hardest most soul destroying event I’ve done. A complete full body torture implement. Even my biceps after using the rope, probably the best pump I ever had
When COVID first happened I was still at the academy and they shut all gyms, so I did 30 days of Murph, some of those days were grim
Never had sand in my urethra, but I do get bladder stones. I am sure they are just a hint at what sand will do.
Not as bad probably as that… just reallllly uncomfortable
