Not racist at all…I simply demand proof before I accept someone as my equal. I don’t consider someone my equal because of any skin color.

Crime rates among blacks are high. 70% of black babies are born out of wedlock. STDs are rampant in black teen girls. It is not racism to flee from such people and it is not racism to not want to hire such people. I would not hire a woman with 4 kids by 4 seperate fathers. I would not hire someone with the attitude of belligerence over their past. I would not hire someone who is too stupid to wear a condom. I don’t think anyone has claimed this yet. All I’m saying (I’m not going to speak for anyone else) is that complaining about not being successful when you’re unwilling to play by society’s rules is not the best way to go.

Sure, the people that rainjack stated earlier have done it their own way. Some white people have done it their own way. However, more often than not, it doesn’t work.

Rainjack also asked for the rule book…
The rules are different depending on the industry in which you are trying to acheive success. None of those industries include ebonics in the formula for success.

Following the rules is racist and detracts from the ability to celebrate one’s culture on the job!

You have to prove yourself to me, for me to accept you as an equal. To do that, you have to show up for work ON TIME, you have to be polite when you don’t want to, you have to show me high competence in what you do (which for me is teaching). I expect the best — piddling around and making excuses doesn’t cut it.

Then, to eliminate racism, you have to OVERWHELMINGLY show that racism is simply stupid. You have to overcome the media portrayal of black people as murderous thugs who have no interest in education. You have to actually marry and stay married to the mother of your children. You have to drop the crack pipe and pick up a book instead. You have to literally laugh Pastor Wright into the dustbin of history.

In other words, YOU have to change. You have to give me so many reasons to accept you as my equal that I have no alternative BUT to accept you in that way.

That isn’t what you said, according to you, I have to be twice as good, not equal…you come in at 9, I have to be there at 8…you have 30 kids in a class and have to fail 10 but if I have the same 30, none can fail for me to be your peer. So, in your eyes, I’m guilty and have have to prove my innocence…just so you know, Pastor Wright exist because of you.

The difference is, some of what you’ve written isn’t even correct. It would take one ignorant fucker to go to a job interview dressed like he just left his girl’s house and dressed in the car. That didn’t stop you from generalizing that “most blacks” do just that.

It is, however, very correct about how many white people exercise “caution” and who they direct it towards. In fact, most who actually debated that aspect proved this in the other thread.

I have no doubt that whites use extra caution when passing a black guy dressed in gangsta wear on the street. I think you have the crimes rates among blacks to blame for that. Just a generalization, regardless if you are a criminal or not. The statistics show this.

And you’re right, it does take an ignorant mother fucker to go to a job interview like that. So why do people do it?

If you don’t think they do, then hear me out. A black guy with only a highschool diploma can get any job interview a white guy with the same qualifications could get. So why does the white have a better job? He presents himself better. So while the black guy may have not gone to the interview in a shirt 6 times too big, there was something about his appearance/image/the way he conducted himself that made the employer hire the white dude instead. If you want to cry racism every time something like this happens, well then you’re digging your own grave and will not overcome these obstacles.
This is bullshit.

The company I work for is in a low economic area, that constantly has drop ins looking for work. The racial mix is very even and they ALL come in dressed like shit. None are dressed like rappers, just dirty, disheveled and torn clothes. People from the same socio-economic climate generally dress the same, so your example doesn’t ring true.

And though I can’t prove it, I do believe the white guy will stand a much better chance of getting hired here. Of course that is just my opinion, and I am a tree hugging liberal surrounded by a bunch of rednecks.

In fact, to give a better example, if my grammar and typing skills were simply “as good as” do you think I would be taken the way I am on this forum?

Do you get why that can be a problem in itself?

That means the statement you just made makes little sense. Why wouldn’t people complain about this? Wouldn’t YOU complain about this if it were in reverse?

I’ve been writing just that. Yes, I do believe much of “white America” truly feels deep down just like the statement you just quoted. The thing that makes it worse is they don’t see anything wrong with that view point. For me to be seen as equal, TRULY equal, I’ve got to better than every single one of my peers. I grew up in Texas and I know for a fact that this holds true.

So, how do they keep claiming we have achieved equality already?
What do you want to be equal to?

I swear this discussion is like the stupid “say no” campaign that they have here in the public schools. My kids were in elementary school, and they would have assemblies, make posters, and wear little “Just Say No” buttons for an entire week.

When I asked them what drugs were - the confused look on their face told me they didn’t have a damn clue what drugs were. But you had better believe they were taught to say no to them.

I don’t know what equality you are wanting. I think you have an equality of opportunity. Blacks have a better than equal opportunity for higher education than a middle-class white kid with average grades. Whether that opportunity is taken advantage of is up to the individual.

At what point do you stop looking at the white guy as the excuse for your social standing? Rosa Parks would still be sitting at the back of the bus had she waited for the whites to accept her.

Nothing in society is equal. You have equal rights, and equal opportunities. That’s about it. I have to earn equality with my peers. Why do you think that equality is a function of race instead of a function of the individual?

Funny you mention her. I wonder how many people in that era thought things were just fine and that Blacks should just stop complaining and accept their position quietly. How many wished Rosa had quit rocking the boat?

Equality will be reached the moment I do not represent my race simply because of my appearance…you know, the moment crime rate stats are not used as justification for why the woman in front of me is now clutching her purse as if her life depended on it.

Equality will be reached the moment a little black girl named Shaquilla Jenkins goes missing and they do hours upon hours of media coverage like happens when a cute little white girl goes missing. (please deny this)

Equality will be reached the day a black man actually runs for the presidency and few even give a shit what color he is.

We haven’t gotten there yet…and excuse us for still rocking the boat a little.

And I think your grammar and typing skills are simply “as good as” the intelligent members on these boards. With all due respect for the great Rosa Parks, there were many days before that one day that she DID sit in the back of that bus. In fact, the thing that sparked her split second decision that helped change society was the simple fact that she was tired as hell from work and her feet hurt. She simply refused at that point and accepted being arrested for the simple act of sitting in a seat.

That means there were several days before that day where she DID give a shit what others thought…because the ramifications of not doing so involved risking everything.

I also don’t see you coming up with any solutions to what is obviously a problem.
