What Nutrition Books Are You Reading?

Glad you enjoyed Knowledge and Nonsense. I would highly recommend Alan’s book and Lyle’s books. [/quote]

Jamie,

Which is Alan’s book?

And are you recommending anything by Lyle? I’ve heard great things about his writings.

I believe Jamie’s referring to “Girth Control”, which I’m about to order. I’ve read “Rapid Fat Loss” and “The Stubborn Fat Solution” by Lyle and they’re both great. His site has a wealth of info as well.

Not to downplay anything by either of those authors, but do you feel you gained knowledge from those books that you did not have before?

I would order Stubborn Fat Solution based on some reviews I’ve read.

I’ll let esk221 speak for himself, but based on the initial post in this thread he seems to have gained a great deal of knowledge.

Personally reading the works of lyle, alan and jamie have revolutionized my beliefs about diet and nutrition, and destroyed some of the old dogma I used to cling to…and that I see many others on this board are still clinging to (stuff about insulin, “clean” foods, macro pairings/separation, meal frequency etc.)

You already mentioned some great resources.

I’d suggest checking out Alan Aragon’s stuff too, he’s definitely one of the best.

Based off this book alone, I’m definitely going to hunt down more of his stuff.

This book is just awesome, as it takes a lot of things that are th gospel an just completely shreds them. The insulin fallacy, food combining myths, and I haven’t even got to the supplement section yet. It sounds cliche, but this book is changing my life!

I’m really glad you’ve “seen the light”. I remember when I was going through the same thing, it’s kinda scary to look back at some of the stuff I believed even just a year ago…

Same here. It seems like there’s ALWAYS more to learn and assumptions about things to weed out.

JM, I like how Lyle pointed out, in an interview with Shelley Holminuk on her QFAC site, that the notion of macronutrient pairings is not useful since protein does a pretty good job of raising insulin; therefore, eating protein and fat together without carbs doesn’t prevent insulin from increasing.

What I don’t understand is why CT said in his Locker Room that the notion of macro pairings is silly, even said that JB himself is steering clear of giving out that advice anymore, and yet an article by CT that came out AFTER he declared macro pairings to be silly stated that one should still pair up macros when planning meals.

I thought that was funny.

EDIT: Unless that article was written WAY before he made that statement in his Locker Room.

This is why I like to be really selective of who I get my nutritional advice from.

And this is why I consider CT’s nutrition info to be about as credible as PETAs.

Earlier this week ordered a 3 pack of books from Amazon…all Jonny Bowden.

150 Healthiest Foods
150 Healthiest Meals
…and the Natural cures one

They just came in yesterday, so I haven’t had a lot of time with them yet, but thumbed through them and liked what I saw.

Thanks for mentioning the book esk, I’ve ordered it just now. Anyone else read Girth control by Alan Aragon as well? What do you think of the book and how different is it compared to the others mentioned? Thanks a lot

XDL Diet is no longer available. I have made many changes to my recommendations for pre-contest and some of the info in the book is irrelevant and actually makes prep more difficult than necessary. Yes I was referring to Alan’s Girth Control.

Alan and I will be presenting at this year’s JP Fitness Summit in Kansas City May 16th.

Jamie Hale

Thanks Jamie. I’m looking forward to reading “Girth Control”.

Ponce - Yeah, you’re definitely going to learn a LOT of new things.

Knowledge and Nonsense looks like a great book, anyone know where I can get it for under $45?
