What Music When You Work Out?

I listen to so much that it would take to long to name them. I just find a song that pumps me up and listen to it. I usually end up listening to it 4 or 5 times when I workout

Anyone who likes Judas Priest automatically likes Three Inches of Blood – but they don’t necessarily know it. That guy thinks he’s Rob Halford, minus the gay sex.

FWIW, I think it goes without saying that the iPod is pretty much the best thing to happen to weight-lifters since creatine…but I never realized until today how much better it is just to put the thing on shuffle for the duration of the lifting session. Not knowing which song comes next and being surprised for each new song really keeps things fresh and more exciting.

Heavy. Metal.

Includes a lot of the classics (maiden, metallica, megadeth, pantera, White Zombie, etc, etc) and other newer stuff (Godsmack, Mudvayne, Disturbed, Rob Zombie) as well as some prog metal (Dream theater). The prog stuff is good for zoning out into your work, but not AS much for max effort stuff. Basically anything that would have been on Headbanger’s Ball before it was taken off the air the first time. Can’t say that I’m really impressed with a lot of the really new bands out now. Also, I need some sort of melody, so Death/Black metal is out for the most part.

I’m actually into ManOWar right now. I’ve liked them for quite a while (I’ve got Norse blood in me, so it makes sense  ), just never for lifting. I don’t know why, but ever since I listened to “Hand of Doom” recently I’ve been much more into them for training. Lyrics are just freakin’ awesome…combine with a sweet chunky riff for a great song…

Hands of doom are reaching out to crush all infidels who stray
Time to know the pain, no time to run within
And these hands you see before you will end the light of day
Your ashes will be cast into the wind
Your blood’s upon the soil, your body fed to wolves
Not one of you will be left alive
Hear the sound pounding and the army of the night
By the hammer of Thor you now shall die

[Chorus:]
Tonight we strike, there is thunder in the sky
Together we’ll fight, some of us will die
But they’ll always remember that we made a stand
And many will die by my hand

High atop the mountain, with hammers in the wind
Lusting for blood and death again
In a flash of lightning strike now the house of death invites you
Body and soul to come within
I see the fear you have inside, you can run but never hide
I will hunt you down and tear you limb from limb
Nothing shall remain, not your memory, your name
It will be as though you never, ever lived

[Repeat chorus, 2nd verse, chorus]

Slayer, standard. Anything else is just taking up valuable Slayer-time.
I’m pretty sure there have been a million of these threads before.

-Slayer (Reign in Blood, still the best)
-Lamb of God
-Metallica (pre justice only)
-Cryptopsy
-Pantera
-In Flames
-Rammstein

anything heavy

Behemoth

Amon Amarth

My two favorites for any time, not just workouts.

Classical.

Mostly Wagner, Bach, and Tchakovski.

Although I occassionally throw in some Deftones, SOAD, or Motorhead.

Music that tames the savage beast.
hah I like calm music also for working out, keeps me focused and helps me to concentrate and not get distracted. -not to mention some classical is really fucking upbeat also, while somewhat calm-

I don’t listen while lifting.

I find worrying about earbuds falling out while lifting too distracting. Dangling cords are also a nuisance. During cardio, though, music is a must.

I’m old school: $20 AM/FM radio from Radio Shack with rechargeable AAA batteries. 3 years and still going strong. Haven’t had an MP3 player since my iPod broke 3 years back. I’m cheap, what can I say?

I dont listen to music now. I used to play metal or anything that would get me jacked up. But the one time I forgot CD’s and worked out without tunes, I got the most intense mind to muscle connection and really felt my muscles work. I could concentrate on the muscle working rather than trying to work to a beat or whatever. So now, NO MUSIC!!

The main reason I listen to music while training is to drown out the garbage they play at the gym.

Marilyn Manson
Nine Inch Nails
Devildriver
Stabbing Westward
Demon Hunter
Fear Factory
Dethklok
Buried at Sea

And sometimes Justin Timberlake when I;m feeling squirrelly.

Looks like I listen to the same stuff as you guy. Some times I listen to uptempo jazz. Also some techno, house, trance, drum and bass, and gabber (hardcore techno)

Lots of Children of Bodom too.

Electronica - Aphex Twin

Heacy Beats - Deftones, 36 Crazyfits (waterhaul being the best for interval cardio for me), RATM, Incubus - whilst hack squatting

Soul/Jazz/RnB - (not totally sure on genre) The Roots, Esthero

‘Footloose’ soundtrack - whilst deadlifting

Gladiator Soundtracks for max effort.

80’s Cheese like Spandau Ballet, Gary Newman, Simple Minds, New Order, A Flock of Seagulls - whilst curling or back work

Yeah, I’m over 50, can’t believe I still love metal so much. And I can’t wait for wireless headphones for the Ipods. Doc

Unfortunately for me I listen to my gym’s XM station. If I hear “Hey there delila…” one more fucking time I’m putting a plate through those speakers. HATE that damn song.
Thats funny my gym has XM also and I’m 300% positive we’re on the same station because that is the only song I hear.

Amon Amarth
GoatWhore
Black Dahlia Murder
As I Lay Dying
Iced Earth (Tim “Ripper” Owens sung albums only)
And of course: IMMORTAAAAAAALLLLLLLL!!!
