should i be doing sprints or long jogs for fat loss and conditioning?
I don’t see many fossils running around. I see lots cycling and swimming.
Worth thinking about.
yes good point…
Walking is plenty for fat loss - as is consuming fewer calories. Walking even works great for low-impact conditioning if you keep the pace quick and add resistance such as inclines.
I will say that I think it’s good to have good running mechanics, to “know how to run,” to be able to run effectively to or from something or someone if and when you need to.
You should do the kind that makes you happy. That you enjoy, and that you will consistently do. There is literally NObody poliicing this shit!
Go with walking or cycling and or swimming . If you want to make the walking more demanding invest in a weighted vest. Running/jogging in large amounts can be pretty hard on joints especially as one gets older
Jogging is hard on the joints.
Sprinting is hard on the joints and the muscles/tendons.
For fat loss, walk. (Get 10K steps/day; doesn’t matter how they’re achieved.) For conditioning, do interval training on a low/no impact machine (stationary bike; elliptical). Don’t do anything that involves sudden loading–no box jumps, etc.
Unless you’re a unicorn, your days of training explosively are behind you.
sprints arent best???walking is frigging boring as hell…
Visualizing husband running sprints with me…omg…call an ambulance ![]()
not good…what if zombies are chasing?
Do you have a dog, it makes walking fun. I put on a vest. People look at me weird but whatever. Honestly, if you like to run sprints, get an aqua jogger and run sprints in water. Whenever I’d have an injury and wanted to keep up conditioning that’s what I did.
He’d be a tasty meal
Learn to walk faster?
Once again, there is NOBODY policing this shit! If you want to run, run! If it starts to hurt, adjust accordingly. You are the ONLY one that knows how YOU feel.
What do you think of running /sprinting OLs for those approaching 40?
Any help is much appreciated.
Where are you sprinting surface wise
Depends on conditioning. I still run hurdles and bleachers some, and I’m 38. Mainly use elliptical for intervals, sprint 40s on tracks grass, jump rope with neighbors kids…yup even double Dutch…helps my mobility. Sprint cycling.
But I have good genetics…except forgot heart hahahaha
I am also 38. I am bit heavy around 245lb to be sprinting now I used to run track in high school . They have a rubber track , 30 metres long in my gym, so i did some warm drills today. I seemed to tolerate that fairly well. However , I do have some torn meniscus in my left knee . I still lift , but depth jumps seemed to bother it.
I have a challenge to rugby tackle a work colleague of mine who weighs 150kg in 3 months time , so I starting to work on some running and mobility.
Get it scoped. I’ve had two, you’ll be back in no time. Yeah totally no sprinting at your size!!!
