Clearly, some of you have an unnecessary amount of time on your hands…
and I thought this site was safe from the dumb ones, stupid bodybuilding . co infecting up with these trolls…
and yet here you are wasting your valuable time posting on said thread.
Yes, yes I am.
Only because I love the Testosterone nation site, great articles and the store isn’t that bad either.
I just browse the forums from time to time, hoping someone post something intelligent, then sometimes I feel like helping the less fortunate.
Thanks for the concern tho !!
Regarding thread title: joy.

As an artist and a bodybuilding enthusiast, do you truly feel that the guys on stage to day are as much a “piece of art” as those in the classic bodybuilding era, moreso, etc.?
I always have to fallback to the great Frank Zane for what I would consider a true “masterpiece” in physique, yet he probably wouldn’t even qualify for the big show nowadays. Seems the emphasis has moved from aesthetics and perfection of form to how much freaky mass you can hold while still coming in shredded.
I’ll probably get flamed for this, but the bigtime pro’s of old looked healthy and in their prime while on stage and off-season, the new era of guys look awkward in public and unhealthy. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a picture of Ronnie Coleman where he doesn’t look exceedingly bloated and almost fat from the amount of muscle he has. Compare that to Serge Nubret.
Maybe they need to add a “body sculpting” competition that focuses more on the “masterpiece” aspect, though they’ll need a cooler name than that obviously.
Nah. I feel that bodybuilding is primarily about large muscles. But that should never be THE winning point. Zane looked good, but should never have been Mr Olympia. I do feel that sometimes the pendulum must swing to an extreme to make changes in the norm, but Zane was a step backward IMHO. But in a way he DID bring bodybuilding to a more mainstream audience.
That said, I think Cedric McMillan with his huge size and classic sweeping lines, and artistic posing routine is a step in the right direction today.
We don’t need anymore specifications for new contest parameters. Let’s keep bodybuilding for the large muscular men with perfect proportions.
For the most part i agree. Its all about the mass monsters now, and when you see a guy like Ced it really catches your eye because there arent too many people that can be huge and have the same kind of lines as him.
I see this pic the other day and thought it was interesting because while PH is no doubt more developed than arnold in every area, Arnold’s arm just looks so much better and more eye-catching. He literally looks like he was sculpted out of granite by the ancient Greeks or some shit along those lines.
Phil just looks like a great big muscle guy, round and large, and not as aesthetically pleasing compared to Arny.
past 2 posts are excellent.

I agree about Arnold. Even by today’s standards Arnie’s arms and pecs are still hard to beat. Even his classic lines and dramatic sweep are stamped into BBing’s subconscious as a high standard to achieve.
But to be fair to Phil, that’s not the best shot of his arm from the back to make a comparison with.
I any case, seeing bodybuilding head into a classic direction really excites me as a BBing fan and an artist.
Of course as long as ugly awkward Branch Warren keeps winning shows, BBing will be taking steps backward.
lol
There’s a quote from Dorian Yates in the English book ‘Muscle’ where he replies that it is inconceivable for Branch Warren to win a certain contest (I forget which, probably the Olympia). For all the negative comments people made about his blocky physique, he actually fully grasped that bodybuilding is much more than just mass (of course our genetics will only allow what they will allow).

Any pic of Phil’s arm cant compare to Arnold’s but thats just my opinion.
Let me put it this way. In the pic i posted, Phil clearly possesses round, full, cannonball delts, and Arnolds are clearly not even close to being that developed, yet everything about his arm from his delts on down looked better to me. Arnold had a beautiful physique, and though Phil’s is impressive, i will never look at it with the same inspiration i gain from Arny’s.

It’s easily conceivable so long as the ifbb continues to put politics ahead of physiques. After the 212s NYP bullshit, I’m fully expecting some incredibly questionable results at this year’s Olympia.

Not only that but its 2012 now, anyone complaining about public forums AT ALL needs to wake up already.
Maybe its done as some form of nostalgia, otherwise its tough to see any sense in it…
