What is a Six Step Pushup?

From the second post DAY 2 PM

Any ideas? I’ve PM’ed physioLojik, but thought someone here might know.

Thanks guys,

Rick.

I think he misspelled it there.
It is a six “Stop” push-up.

Basically, you go stop 6 six times over the course of performing one rep.

eg:
lower your self 1/3 of the way, stop for 1 sec
another 1/3, stop 1 sec
at the bottom, stop 1 sec
up 1/3, stop 1 sec
up another 1/3, stop 1 sec
at the top, stop 1 sec

Hmm, makes sense, any idea why he is using a smith machine for a pushup? Is he doing the “pushup” differently that a normal pushup (apart from the pause/temp thing)?

I guess the smith would allow you to use more weight and give you better control over the stops.
Treating it like a flat bench? would make it easier to add resistance.

…so it’s really a “Stop Bench Press” then

I guess so.

Imagine my disappointment when I clicked on this thread and it wasn’t about “Six Strap Pushups”.

^^^ LOL

hey – old thread, but ive been gone. A six step pushup is done by putting the smith machine 3 steps up from the bottom, doing pushups, and upon the conclusion of each set of 8 or 10, moving the bar one step lower. So basically its like this:

10 reps 3rd
10 reps 2nd
10 reps floor
10 reps 2nd
10 reps 3rd
