I assumed that “building a better body” was about “bodybuilding”. Just take a look at what these morons voted on what they want to look like! http://www.T-Nation.com/readTopic.do?id=497400
Do you think this poll is retarded and of two extremes?
Anyway, what do you, as an individual consider a “better” body, Brad or Jay? Orrr, what do you, as an individual consider a “better”, or “best” type of body?
I don’t have a problem with people not wanting to look like someone who does boatloads of pharmaceuticals and still be striving for a better body.
There are a ton of people that just want to be skinny though. Hopefully once they get in the gym a bit they’ll start to realize that being skinny doesn’t look healthy/appealing either.
That thread is by no means an embarassment. Most people (even people on T-Nation) aren’t looking to look like Mr. O competitors. They’re freakishly huge. It’s impressive, but that’s not everybody’s goal, even here. And it doesn’t need to be.
I’ll bet you that if you ran that poll on other forums across the net a WAY lower percentage of people would have people would have voted for Jay.
As one person mentioned already, run the poll again with Frank Zane against Brad Pitt, and we’ll see what happens.
Edit: Hmm…guess you can’t post images like that. You should all know what Zane looks like anyway. If you don’t go to the URL yourself.
And one more thing, I’m sure the people who voted for Pitt weren’t saying they wanted to look like him, just like not all the people voting for Cutler were saying they want to look like him. You have to remember it was a poll with two very extreme choices.

Amen.
I really agree with Vroom though, I think a person’s body should be athletically pleasing, but not with the sacrifice of athletic and functional capability.
I’d say something alongside that of gymnasts (without the injuries) and oly lifters (without the excess fat in the heavy ones).
The poll is stupid. I doubt many people want to look like a horse steroid pumped freak and therefor would prefer Brad Pitt’s physique. It should have been something along the lines of Bill Pearl, Frank Zane, Mike Mentzer. The Brat Pitt physique is attainable to everyone here. It’s not that, that many people want to look like Brad, it’s more like not many want to look like Jay Cutler which is understandable under an attracting female, being able to sit in a normal seat, not have people stare at you 24/7, health and food intake standpoint. But hey if you want to look like that including the GH gut and face disfigurement go ahead.
A better body for me is my body, but with more on the shoulders and arms and legs. Just that little bit bigger…
I would never sacrifice performance for size, I want to be able to run kick and jump with increased agility as I train, going the cutler route, whilst impossible for me is also the last thing I’d want to do.
I have respect for what he’s done, but it’s not one of my goals.
It’s a site called “Testosterone Nation”, not “Freak-Nation” or “Hyooge-O-Rama”.
And it’s about building your body, not getting big at all costs.
I agree with the above posters in so far that they could have taken someone more human instead of Cutler.

Well said.
The poll was of two extremes. Thankfully it is not an either/or choice in real life.

Better might be…
no neglected muscles.
more proportionate.
less fat.
more muscles.
more strength.
sport specific improvements.
etc.

That poll was retarded. I have no desire to look like either one of those guys. I passed up the “brad Pitt” zone about two months into training many years ago. I don’t really want to weigh 300lbs in contest shape either. My goals are more along the lines of some NPC heavyweight competitors.
I wondered for a long time why some people, especially newbies, seem to only think in extremes. It is like their mind works just like that poll and they can’t see anything but the two opposing ends. Some people would do well to actually follow bodybuilding instead of bashing what they think they know on passing glances. Most people into bodybuilding don’t consider Jay Cutler worthy of the attention he seems to get.
I agree that poll gave extreme opposites as options. Saying it was an embarresment was a facetious exaggeration, but I do find it funny that on a bodybuilding forum, people would rather have the body of a twig than the 2nd most built body ever.
I also wouldn’t want either of those bodies however. My ideal body is the classic bodybuilder like Arnold and Zane like people have said as well, probably right in the middle. I used that poll as an example to provoke thought on what people consider their best body, so what do you, as an individual, consider a “better” body?

Oh, is that what this is?
I thought it was an MMA forum.
Nah, more like a powerlifting forum.
That’s not right either.
This is definitely without a doubt a football conditioning forum…or a track and field forum? A sex forum? A nutrition forum?

This is Phil Heath. I consider him on the same level as Shawn Ray used to be when I was a kid as far as proportion and potential. I personally don’t understand the point of the original poll.
It should be clear by now that many of the people who log in here didn’t even know most of those guys posted in the “favorite bodybuilding picture” thread before it went up. I find that very strange and telling on a bodybuilding forum. It means most of these guys have no clue what they are even doing and base their goal completely on “pop culture” references.
Another I looked up to as far as a goal would be Eddie Abbew. They aren’t the absolute biggest competitors. My goal was always to be about 230-240lbs “lean”. It is still what I am shooting for. Hopefully I am getting close.

Haha, good luck defining this forum. [/quote]
It has been defined. I personally feel that as long as you actually have people shunning the act of building muscle to any sort of extreme, it will keep others from either reaching a goal or even being aware of what is possible.
The ONLY reason the “functional muscle” bullshit has died down lately is because of posters flaming those you use that term to degrade bodybuilders. Trying to pretend as if it isn’t a ‘BODYBUILDING THINK THANK’ doesn’t do us any good.
The reason I’d pick Brad Pitt’s body is simple: Something to work with.
Jay Cutler’s already a finished product. A hideously deformed product. Pitt has good muscle attachments and broad shoulders. I could really make something awesome out of that.
I would take Brad’s body over that other lump of uglyness anyday. Why? Because Brad’s body is much closer to the ideal man’s body. There are extremes on both ends of skinny and huge. And Brad is much closer to the medium than to extremely skinny. Jay is the extreme oger. Should have compared Jay to Pee Wee Herman and it would have been an accurate acessment.
In comparing alot of muscle to a little bit of muscle, you should have compared Brad Pitt to Arnold Schwarzenegger. Both bodies are admired by many and suit different levels of muscualrity. Idealy both Brad and Arnold are closer to the happy medium of the amount of muscle that people find attractive.
The picture I am posting is about as close to a medium as you will find. Arnold haveing more mass than this, and Brad having less. But all 3 pictures pleasing to the eye. Now Jay and Pee Wee Herman are just not pleasing to the eye.

Phil Heath is one of my favorite bodybuilders today as well. A while ago, I thought about if I could choose different aspects of different bodybuilders and put them on myself, my choice for pecs were Phil’s. My favorite of today is Dexter Jackson. They have probably the maximum amount of mass that you can still look close to perfect aesthetically. Arnold is of course my favorite of all time and still think that at his peak, he has the “best” physique in history.
