What Have I Done?

I have a nasty pain in both legs, I only feel it when I try to run. the pain is on the inside of my legs just underneath both calfs. The pain is similar to that of shin splints but in a totally different place I have had shin splints, pulled calf, pulled achiles before but never a pain here.

I have had this for 2 months now, I have tried resting up for weeks, light exersize, stretching etc. etc. but nothing is shifting it, I cannot run for shit with this, rugby season starts in a few weeks, anyone have any advice please cheers

Painful area is indicated in my pic

Also if it helps I think I originally injured myself by jumping up and down with a fat chick on my shoulders!

I dont know what you have done but it may be associated with that big red thing stuck on your leg. Get that sorted out and it may fix the problem.

Cheers Helga, well spotted

Keen eyes Dr. Helga, an untrained eye may have missed that.

I knew these anatomy lessons would pay off sooner of later.

I’m having the exact same problem at the moment when I run. I’ll be interested to see what people make of this!

Shin splints?

Looks like the soleus if you ask me.

It’s worth it’s weight in gold. I cant count how many muscular issues I’ve fixed using trigger point therapy. Every athlete should have this in their library.

I had the same issue for about a month, but it was just on one side. I just assumed it was from the pressure on my tiny muscles trying to play second row. The pain did not subside for several months, but it did go away.

Ok, now it is obvious why I play second row. The pain was gone in a little over a month. I have no friggin clue why I put several months at the end. Maybe I should find a club with a hooker with smaller hips, less brain damage.

I think the answer is to stop running. I mean, anything worth running after is probably worth shooting and dragging home, right?

This is generally frowned upon on the Rugby field. May even get you a sin binning…

Crazy, huh?

Hell, that’s the rule I live by.

Maybe stress fractures? I’m not a dr. but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

But first things first, stop jumping up and down with fat chicks on your shoulders.

That incident was a definate one off, in my highly intoxicated state mixed with the excitment of seeing the Chilli’s live, I believed that I could impress fat chicks ‘not so fat’ friend by showing off my ‘amazing’ strength by bouncing her fat mate up and down on my shoulders.

Did I shag her mate?

Did I fuck :frowning:

Sounds like a stress fracture, go to the doctor man. Who knows you might even have torn something.

I have exactly the same fucking problem, over two weeks now, it even hurts when I walk.

This is a form of shin splints. It is an inflammation/tearing of the tendon sheath surrounding your shin.

I suffered through this all spring rugby season. Even after taking the entire summer of from any running mine are still a bit tender.

Things you can do to help besides rest:

Ice (I have been icing 3 times a day since January)

Massage - run your knuckles down the inside of your shin bone. better yet do an ice massage. (It hurts like hell but you have to dig in there and break up the adhesions)

Aleve 2 in the am 2 in the pm or ibuprofen 4 (800mg) every 8 hours

Streaching - both your calf as well as the front of your shin

strenghten the front part of your shin - walk around on your heels do dorsiflexion exercises

Get better shoes / arch support

Tape your arches

If the problem persists you might look into ankle braces to improve stability and reduce the strain.

The biggest thing I did was lose weight. I noticed a big difference but then again I dropped 40 lbs and lost alot of strength. (Do not go on the velocity diet during Rugby season)

If the pain is not just on the inside of your shin bone but on both sides in a specific spot then you have a stress fracture.

After 8 months 3 doctor visits 2 PT’s consulted 8 therapy sessions and a bone scan I am still not “fixed”. I’ll save you the expense all they tell you is RICE it. My orthopedic even told me “some people are just not meant to play Rugby”. F that!
