I didn’t expect such a good response. I thought I might have to post this on Off Topic to get any discussion going
I tend to stick to bananas, kiwis, oranges and the occasional mango, papaya, apple and berries. Most of it depends on what is in season, quality and price for me. I’ve learned to substitue bananas and kiwis for each other in my morning shake, since they both have similar potassium and Vitamin C content. I always have an orange with my 3pm P+C meal. Sometimes I put half a banana or a kiwi in my oatmeal before bed- I’ve always found I sleep better when I have a small piece of fruit before bed.
So in general, I tend to restrict my fruit intake to no later than mid afternoon and switch over to more vegetables after that.
It’s nice to see that a balanced diet is so important to many of us.
excellent thread going. But I gotta ask Asong, dude, is Sexmoan a real place, because if it is, it’s gotta be one of the best names I’ve ever heard!
But seriously, I think Nylo brought up a really good point about K+
Humans naturally need a huge K+:Na+ ratio for proper cellular communication and fruits are an excellent source of K+. I like apples and berries myself. And yes of course… you gotta respect the peach…
"You know what we can be like: See a guy and think he’s cute one minute, the next minute our brains have us married with kids, the following minute we see him having an extramarital affair. By the time someone says “I’d like you to meet Cecil,” we shout, “You’re late again with the child support!”
I forgot to mention the cranberries I shove into my oatmeal at least once or twice a weak. They taste gross, but with a little whey thrown in, you get lots of Vitamin C and a healthy unrinary tract for good measure. Anyone know the relative nutrition of oranges vs. tangerines and say mandarines? Oranges are a staple for me, but I’m never sure how good any of the others are.
Amen Ike, I go for the organically grown fruit. From what I was told, it has less sugar than a conventionally grown fruit. I have found this to be true simply by taste. Bottom line, it just tastes alot better.
