Im a die-hard chevy fan myself but f-series pickups are bang up trucks. I really don’t care for Ford but I drive a 2002 Diesel Ford Excursion currently and my wife a 2006 Ford Exp Xlt I love the way they both drive but working on them is another story, I fucking hate Ford engineering. I do like the Titans Ragoo but would personally never buy a foreign made truck, just my preference, under 10 large honestly I would say go with an older jeep product, driving a jeep cherokee under 10k isn’t hard, every Jeep product I’ve owned has been a good purchase.
Like all Asian Teenagers,Honda Civic. Really Realiable but I need to replace to doors and get a CD player and new rims. Im gonan be stuck with it for awhile so why not make it look good?
I spent several years in europe back in my soldierin’ days, and drove VW & Alfa-Romeo for years, got tired of manual trans, though fun and more control, got tired of shifting…These days I drive BMW automatic similar to above, but stealth tuned with nicer wheels in different color…One of the few pleasures I get these days, makes the work commute a bit more tolerable…

Very nice. I absolutely LOVE BMW’s. They’re classy as hell, they drive really smooth with tons of power, and they have fantastic resale value. One thing I will guarantee: after this used car that I’m buying, my next car (when I actually have a few dollars to spend) will be a BMW.

I feel for you with the shitty ford escorts, hambone. I drove a 99’ escort Zx2 before my new car and it seriously was like driving a clown car. Especially for a guy as big as you.
I recently bought my new car this year. 2007 Mazda 3, 4-door. I really wanted a truck, but I needed a commuter car because i drive approx 40-60 miles each work day and gas prices were killing me.
This car is incredibly spacious. Enough room to put 4 6’ tall guys in without cramped leg room in the back. Also the trunk is huge enough to fit like 10 dead bodies. 36 highway mpg if i remember correctly.
I got it for 13.5k after taxes and licensing and all the other BS fees. The trick is that there is normally a “leader car” that they put out in the papers every week. They always have like 1-2 cars of a certain model for a really really dirt cheap price to entice people to come in to the lots and check their cars out. It is a stock model with no AC and no power whatever. But you get it new at around 9k.
I have a 2004 Nissan Xterra: Flow Master, NISMO Cold air intake, Front+rear brushguards, all new sound system including 2 10in subs, and touch screen GPS installed.
I love my SUV, has 46,000 miles without a single problem ::knock on wood::
I;m looking to buy a new ford mustang but I’m not sure how well it will handle the midwestern snowy roads…
For you Subies out there my best friend and I have been working on his stage 4 WRX. It has new everything at this point and I must say the new suspension kicks ass.
staying on the reality track, I drive a German-made Ford Focus Diesel 2000. It is a absolute joy doing a comfortable 110 mph on the autobahn and it gives me 35 mpg. I have heard the the US-made ones are a bit dodgy, though.
But…
The Volvo S40, if you can get the the new design, is fundamentally the same as the Focus. It should handle as a dream and be spacious enough in the front for a T-man;-)

1995 Ford Ranger.

I freaking love it.
Pros:
-No car payment
-I can haul stuff
-It gets decent mileage for a truck (about 20mpg)
-Tighter turning radius than a 2003 Toyota Camry…it’s generally an easily maneuverable truck
Cons:
-Slow
-Not exactly a “looker”, but I do keep it well-maintained.
Midsize trucks are great, because of all these reasons, and the fact that there’s an abundance of them, or so it seems. They can therefore EASILY be had for under 10k.[/quote]
I’m with you on your pros and cons, especially the car payment part. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to being in debt for a vehicle.
I drive a 1993 Explorer and I love it. This summer I spent two days a week on Lake Michigan playing with my dog, then we both lay in the back and pass out for a couple hours, feeling the summer heat and the lake breeze. It’s got 250,000 miles on it, so it’s starting to wear down, but I’ll get at least another year out of it. It helps that I don’t really drive more than I need to and I carpool to work.

Thats what i would suggest.

Very interesting, cmn. It makes perfect sense that they’d do that, obviously, I just had never really thought about it. Thanks for the info…oh, and I love the Mazda 3’s. I never really thought one could be had for less than $15k, though. I might have to look further into this, especially if you can fit dead bodies in the trunk…haha.
Matt, did you do this work yourself? If so well done! I’ve always been very impressed and jealous of people who customize cars, probably because I couldn’t tell a clutch from a crankshaft when it comes to cars.

One of my buddies just bought an Xterra…really nice ride.
As for the Mustang, I wouldn’t recommend it. One of my friends from college got one (we were in upstate NY during the schoolyear, so snow was pretty regular) and while he’s stubborn as shit he ended up selling the thing after a few accidents. Granted, he’s a dumbass and he also drives like one, but having been in the car with him when there was snow on the ground, I really don’t think it’s a good idea. Now, if you have the money to keep the Mustang covered during the winter while driving a second vehicle, that’s a different story.

Thanks, man…I’ve always been fascinated with the availability of cars in Europe vs. in the US. Cars made here are very different than the same cars made in Europe. Very strange to me.
I really like the S40, but the problem is I like the recently (05, I believe) updated version of the car. The 01-04 version just doesn’t do it for me (that is, I like them, but not as much as some others I’ve found in the price range).
Oh, and I’m hardly the biggest T-man roaming these boards…5’9" and 190, so I’m not too worried about that. Hopefully, in a few years when I’m getting rid of this recent car, I’ll be 230 and it will be a legitimate concern.
