What Do You All Think?

I know this only shows my upper half but my question to any of you looking at this is, do you think im somewhat ready to to step on stage for a bb show? ive never done one and its always been my dream.
as part of my dream though, i always imagined that id come in huge and muscular at my first show. most people i see going to there first shows, weather they are doing physique or bb, they usually look small and not very impressive, which is very normal to do.

so my thing is, is i dont wanna go to my first show just to say i stepped on stage, i really wanna come in and win the show hands down ya know?

anyways guys, looking forward to what you have to say, negative and positive. comments are much appreciated. maybe i can post up some pics of my wheels and back soon too. i might need help tho because im new to the site! thanks guys

Wheel pictures would be good, that’s certainly an area where many novices are lacking.

As far as being competitive in your first show: it depends on the stage. You could show up at your size and end up being the biggest guy on stage, or you might be the smallest guy. That all depends on who else shows up, which is something you have no control over. Do you intend to compete as a natural competitor, or in a non-tested comp? This would make a significant difference in terms of what you can expect your competition to look like.

thanks man. to be honest, id like to do a non tested show. id like to play fair lol. im having a lil trouble finding a show to do though. im new at the whole thing. i have tons of friends who have done a lot of shows, and i myself have done tons of powerlifting meets in the past, but this is completely different. i guess my question is, do you have any pointers at finding good shows to do?

also, here is a pic of the wheels a few weeks ago. im workin on them, there comin up. i dont know if i mentioned this anywhere in any of my posts, but i have till next spring/summer to pick a show, well thats around the time i plan to do one. so i got about a year to lock this down. a year of gains, im confident i can put at least another 20lbs of much needed mass by then. my lagging areas are lats and hams. i really need more back thickness too. but thats about it.

kinda went of on a bunch of crap, sorry, but what do ya think my man?

Well you upper body look thick and fairly lean and your legs appear to lag, but it would be better to have a picture of them together to compare.

Coming in small is a definite chance, you really have to pick an appropriate time to prepare, not dieting too little or too much. Also your prep week before the show can make a big difference; knowing how to carb up and hydrate sufficiently to swell up big but not get soft and alot of people miss the mark.

Who you are put up against matters alot too, if you are tall than average in your weight class, you may look alot smaller next to someone shorter and stouter at the same weight. Your posing matters alot as to how big you can look, so you wanna practice alot.

I just recently did my first show, it was fun. I did the Phil Heath Classic under the NPC, I think that type of show would be kind of what you are looking for. You can compete in a novice class and the open class as a first timer which is useful to kinda compare how developed your contemporaries are, as well as the more experienced competitors. You can check out their website and their contest schedules. There are other affiliations as well, but I don’t know all that many, I would google search and pick one closest to where you live. I couldnt imagine traveling for by plane or car to do a show, must be exhausting.

dang ill have to take another pic of everything when i go to the gym in post it. i just realized i f’ed up posting my pic up top cause i didnt block out my face lol oh well i guess. if a MOD sees it maybe they can do something?

anyways, thanks for the info. and your right, my legs and lats have always been my lagging parts. im pretty confident i can work some magic within a year though. ya, ive been googling tons of diff shows and im just at a loss, i dont know how to choose one at all. also, im really lagging in the posing department. i know all the basic poses, but as for an actual posing routine, im really scared because i have no idea what to do haha also my song is gonna be hard to choose. anyone have any pointers in anything?

Depending on where you live, posing classes would be a strong option. I live in Dallas, and there are several hardcore bodybuilding gyms, such as Metroflex and Destination Dallas, that offer weekly posing classes. You would be able to get feedback on your posing, music choice, etc. that would otherwise be unavailable.

A lot of people on here have their face in pictures on here. I wouldn’t worry about it.

vegeta2632,

Have someone take some pic.s of you. You could have some good wheels but that pic is shitty.

You look like you have a fair amount of size, to the extent that you belong up there. As for winning hands down, in a non-tested show you’re going to see at least one monster that will make you look like a young boy.

Keep it in perspective; it’s your first show and you will learn more than you think. Grab your balls and jump.

From the one pic, you appear to have a decently thick torso. Legs look good, but unless you can give a straight on full body shot, I can’t really assess symmetry or overall quality.

As far as doing a show, as has been pointed out, you never know who else will show up. All you can do is make sure you’re doing yourself proud with your preparation. Tested or untested, you’ll find a lot of experienced and knowledgeable competitors on here in the bodybuilding forum. I for one would certainly be interested in seeing you throw in for a contest run and see how everything comes together.

thanks guys, i really appreciate your feedback, im glad i joined here. i will definitely get someone to get a full body shot of me and get it on here so you all can assess me better and give me some more pointers and opinions. i definitely need to be drivin in the right direction because honestly i just dont know where to start in the show department.

ill try to get under some decent lighting when i have someone take the pictures of me. thanks again guys. also just an fyi, my avi pic is me but it was a while back and i was leaner.

I looked up some of the more famous posers from like the 80’s and stuff and kinda got an idea for how its supposed to look then did some videos of myself trying the moves I liked and whether I looked good doing them or not. My favorite by far was Bob Paris.

As for song choice I knew I wouldn’t be able to just walk up and blast metal or something. A lot of people just pick a popular song and go to it, it seems to be a safe bet, but the judges/crowd will respond differently to different things. The guy who went after me was a gymnast and did some flips and stuff and got the crowd pretty excited, but that kind of flair isnt necessary or recommended as it shows your weak parts and he placed right below me as a matter of fact.

Pick a song you are comfortable with, maybe one that means something to your or represents your style, and one that maybe fits well for a 60-90 sec piece.

Don’t be afraid to try some unique or classical poses, I saw alot of people just go out and do mandatories, which you certainly can but it strikes me as less creative.

If I may add?
Don’t stress over the night show. I personally think that 1st- 3rd doesn’t change because of the routine. Get you mandatories in and go have some fun with your music, then hit Pizza Hut!

The free posing routine is definitely the time to have a bit of fun, because it doesn’t actually count in your final score at all. In some federations (especially in larger shows), only the top 5 in each class even get to perform a routine due to time constraints.

I personally feel that while everyone has access to the same basic mandatory poses, how you present them, transitions, personal flair, synching up with the music… allows you to really make a personal routine.

If you watch a few shows, you’ll see routines that range from just hitting a competitor’s strongest poses, to downright not-even-posing-but-dancing. When I judge shows, I’m still in bodybuilder mode, meaning that I’m there to assess physiques, not really for the purpose of watching some guy use the captive audience to get off on prancing around in his undies (I’ve seen some questionable routines over the years -lol). Of course if you can actually work some ‘moves’ (only recommended if you’ve really got 'em!) into your posing routine, it’s certainly not a bad thing to try and entertain people.

I think you look great.
I strive to be as big as you are and that would be enough for me.

What do you eat for breakfast? Just curious.

I think it’s fucking awesome that your username has vegeta in it…

Calm down nappa, he’d always say…

Nappa needed to calm down.
