Hello all, new to the forums…but ive been using the site forever. Entered my first show about 6 weeks ago. I never thought i would actually get up on stage…its never really why i trained…but i was finally convinced to give it a shot and im glad i did.
After 10 years of hard training…i ended up cutting from 225…and ended up on stage at 167lbs. It was quite an expereince…a true exercise in will power. Anyways, just wanted to introduce myself and would welcome any and all comments on the pics.
Looking good bro. Only thing I will say is the hams and glutes look a bit soft, but as you continue to compete your conditioning will only get better. Good job.
Thanks for the comments…my hamstrings are bad…plus i had a hard time getting the “mind” “body” connection of flexing the hamstrings…my posing wasnt very good.
Great shots, very solid physique. THat’s a huge drop from 225 to 167! How long, what did your earlier build look like in comparison to the stage level pics?
Ya…so i have about 10 years of training under my belt i would say…and it took me a long time to get up to 225…im a hardgainer and was a beanpole in highschool. I actually wouldnt have called myself a bodybuilder in the past as i prefered to lift heavy and low reps. I think this helped create a solid “base”, so that when i did start to cut, i had alot of muscle underneath. Looking back now…i was to heavy for my height…225 at 5’8 is to much weight…and i enjoyed wearing XXXL shirts…but i never was able to acheive that bodybuilder look that i wanted…and i realize now it had nothing to do with my training but with my diet and cardio…i thought i ate pretty clean before…but i had no idea what it really takes to get down to competition level bodyfat.
It took me 16 weeks to cut that weight…and it was 2 hours of cardio a day, 1 hour on empty stomach before breakfast and an hour after dinner, plus weights in the afternoon. The cardio for me was the worst part…as im sure some of u can attest to…i hated it…it was hell and there were days when i literally wanted to die on that goddamn eliptical machine…but u push through it…and once u break down those mental barriers u realize…that you can in fact do this…its just a matter of will power.
In terms of diet…it changed as i moved through the differnt phases…and i had two coaches that had everything written out for me. Basically it was no salt no sugar no wheat no red meat. All protein came from chicken and white fish (tilapia) and shakes, carbs came from oatmeal in the AM, and brown rice or yams in afternoon, with greens in each meal as well. I suppose i could post the whole diet if anyone cares.

I wouldnt mind seing your diet if you have the time to write it. I range about the same weight as you, well before you cut down and your diet would give me an idea on what i need to do after chrismas.
