Hi, I’ve been training for about 10 years and can’t seem to get a good diet going. Does anyone know of a diet that i can follow to add muscle and stay lean at the same time. Thanks ahead of time.
Well its all about a life style change.
I say start with the Heven habits article and nail those conceots then move from there if need be.
Honestly if you simply get those nailed you will be in awesome shape the rest will be extra.

T Dawg 2
Those should keep you busy for a bit and get you well informed. Dont get overwhelmed take it slow. make steady changes you can live with and come on back with any questions
Hope that helps,
Phill
As I am learning more and more, it is indeed about a lifestyle change. That being said, the T Dawg ?plan on this website is a nice start (although the carb up meals set me way back, because they usually turn into carb days, carb weeks).
If you are looking for simplicity, try The Testosterone Advantage plan. I know it is not a T-Nation product, but its author Lou Schular contributes here sometimes since leaving Men?s Health. Easy, understandable, written with iron in mind, and it works.
Thanks for the advice guys I’ll check these out.
If you can’t find a diet at this website than you are not lookin hard enough or you are not willing to do the work that comes along with it.

Phill, that was an awesome post and very cool of you to take the time to do that. I always like it when I see a T-Nation newbie helped rather than attacked for his “noobness.”
PM me your address and your choice of any Biotest supplement you want, Phill. We’ll send you that plus a few T-shirts.
Thanks!
SWEEEEET,
Man just got home and saw this. While not sure I am deserving I wont turn it down.
Just trying to give back a little bit of the HUGE amount T-Nation has passed to me.
Thanks ALL of the staff and forum members, as well as Biotest
Now I have to choose a supplement.
HMMMM, choices, choices
Try some Carbolin-19!
I have been using Lyle McDonald’s Ultimate Diet 2.0 after reading about it in one of CT’s posts. It has been working very well getting me ready for my upcoming show. I have maintained strength and even gained a little on a few lifts during the time I have been using it.

Very cool and well deserved.
Phill, I’ve read all those articles, but seeing your list and having it so conveniently laid out like that, I read them all again. Good post… like you needed me to tell you.
bino,
Thanks glad they/I was able to help.
I try and do the best I can. Never hesitate to ask anything. I as well as most others here will do what we can.
Also feel free to lend your knowledge to us as well.
Share and we all learn form one another.
Thanks again,
Phill
Phill… I second and third the appreciation of your post. I’m bookmarking it so I can read all those. Read some, but it’s nice to see them all together.
Let’s hope your tone catches on.

Good morning:
I’m in search of some help with my diet and lifting program. I’m sure to get flammed but I really need the help. You see I’ve only started lifting about a year ago. I struggle with my diet trying to loose a few pounds while trying to keep my minimal gains.
First here is a brief look at me. Im 46 years old and smoked for, well a bunch of years. This friday I’ll be 52 weeks clean. Been active most of my life but 2 kids later and some in-active periods have provided me with a jelly belly.
I’ve tried many diets found here at T-Nation the latest is the T-Dawg and working with the Meltdown workout in addition to my regular lifting program.
This is my goal. I currently weigh about 190, and im 5’10". I need to get rid of my gut fat and want to keep my muscle, as little as it is. So I’m trying to count my calories but keep up my Protein to master the muscle thing. It seems that I can’t do both. I come up with a figure to maintain my current weight about 2000 calories. I subtract 500 and try and make that my goal for the week in calories. However doing this I cannot seem to get my protein in without going over my days calorie count.
Any ideas on how to help. I exercise most every day in someway. On non lifting days im running slow 3.3 miles. About 10 min miles. Mon - Wed - Fri - Sun I’m doing Meltdown 1. Tues - Wed - Fri I’m doing my lifting program. On my meltdowns I will start running my 3.3 after the meltdown.
Send help.
Thanks in advance
Semper Fi
Right on, Devil Dog! I think you know the drill. Get some asshole Sergeant to yell at you at 5 in the morning and again later that afternoon and run like a mad dog. Just kidding. But right on. I am a Marine (grunt), just got back from Fallujah. Was with 3/5 in the offensive. The young Marines are the greatest men I have ever met and probably will ever meet. This thread is great because of what Phil posted earlier…fantastic stuff. I also recommend some fun stuff like martial arts twice a week and some good lifting (solid technique and a good controllable weight) at a gym with some motivation three to four times a week. Buy some Biotest products, they are there for a reason…they work. Devil, there is so much to tell you, but you know how it goes…KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid). S/f
Semper Fi, Marine.
One thing you seem to be overlooking is that you want a deficit of calories. In terms we can both understand, you want to either burn more than the 2000 calories you need for maintence or you need to drop calories.
A third, and probably the option that will work for you is to combine the two. In other words, get in your protein and then do some extra work to burn off the extra calories.
For me, I have to drop 250 calories and do some extra cardio to meet my goals. For you it could be a different ratio but the 250 drop has worked so you could try that.
Also, good job on tracking your maintence calories and being smoke free. Knowing what you need, what you are getting is a big step.
Feel free to ask more.
Semper Fi,
Arioch
P.S. Micheal C., Welcome home and Semper Fi.
Thanks, Arioch. I am on 30 days paid vacation right now and loving every second of it. Everyday I think of the Marines who didn’t come home alive. My heroes. I am going to Hawaii with the wifey soon. It is going to be a welcome release. I enjoy meeting Marines online (sorry for all the non-Jarheads that have to read this). Keep growing. S/f.
