What Are You Waiting For?

This one is for all the sponges out there. You know who you are. You read everything and soak up knowledge but don’t bother to post any messages of your own.

What are you waiting for?

I remember when I first found this site. It took me about six months of hanging out reading things before I bothered to make a post. Even then, I’d only post on the off topic and politics forums.

Now I find myself deeply indebted to T-Nation:

o I have acquired a mass of knowledge that has put me in charge of my health and fitness as never before.

o I’ve received tons of inspiration from some of the articles on the site as well as from other forum contributors.

o I’ve been reminded of the better qualities and aspects of being a man and living like one.

If you are out there reading the site all the time, why not pop in here and say howdy? This thread is for all of you sponges out there. If you find a way to get involved you’ll find the Nation is that much more interesting and useful.

Heck, after a while you’ll even be offering advice and support to newcomers that come along after yourself.

So, what are you waiting for, an invitation? Well, here it is!

If you are one of the many sponges out there, pop in and say hi on this thread. Maybe once you bust your forum cherry you’ll get a bit more involved…

Alternately, if you are a regular forumite, maybe drop in and comment on how you got involved and why you are still around.

I’ll get the ball rolling. I’ve recently started posting a lot more. (usually questions) I joined because my athletic goals changed, and I decided it was time to pack on some mass. Only in the beginning stages, but so far, so good. I attribute a lot of it to T-Nation, especially the nutrition info I’ve picked up. Great site!

You make a good point. the wealth of QUALITY info here was established through hard work and should not be taken for granted.

You know why people don’t post? Because of people like you - people ask legitimate questions and your response is that they have " food issues" or they “should get their training and nutritional act together”

You are the poster boy for a little information is dangerous.

There…sponge no more.

I stumbled onto this site from JB’s site and I couldn’t stop reading for the first 2 months. I was also very tentative at first, but then I started chiming in. I stay away from the politics and religion and only post in a thread that grabs my attention or is important to me. I try to give advice, but mostly I’m still taking information in.

Why am I still here? The most thorough and up-to-date knowledge and information on everything related to improving your body from the greatest minds in the world, for FREE!!! “'Nuff said.”

Maybe they’re afraid to post because Prof X will lecture them about how big he is and about how they need to eat and lift harder. He’s right in some cases, but it gets old fast.

Heh, OK, I’ll bite.

I usually do tend to lurk on sites for a while, only posting if something of interest comes up. I’ve read the articles on this site for quite a while now, but I haven’t had the time to post a lot on forums like these.

Bahahahaha. Priceless!

Thank you for taking this opportunity to come up with something constructive. Nice contribution to the thread!

Note to sponges, if your first post is a picture post showing you with no lean mass talking about wanting to diet down, you might not like what you hear.

Heh, the advice from this poster boy, don’t start out that way.

Seriously though, this place is filled with a lot of humor, sarcasm and other fun things. Honestly, every now and then it helps to have a thick skin, but don’t let that stop you from getting involved.

Gonta, if I hurt your feelings when you first showed up, sorry dude. Sounds like you have other issues too… :stuck_out_tongue:

this site has helped me alot , befor i came here most of my knowlege came from my neighbor which he taught me some good stuff but this site was been a ALOT of help , i used to visit the site when it was called T-mag then after a while drinking and wasting time doing nothing became my life stlye now since january i’ve been back in the gym. im feelin good ,stronger and a little bit more confident hopefuly next football season i can play for a jc

Okay, I’ll post:

Can I take Surge while having sex or should I just stick with taking it after workouts at the gym?

What will happen if I mix regular Grow! with Low-Carb Grow!? Do I get the best worlds of gaining mass and getting cut??

I’ve recently been taking one tub of Surge per week and dumping it in the garbage disposal while its running and at the same time, I turn on the cold water. This seems to help with the nasty smell that my garbage disposal has. Will adding Grow! or Spike help neutralize the nasty smells?

Thanks for the help in reply

Snap, long term lurker, finally posted when I had a question and have been posting ever since. T-Nation rules.

I am a sponge and proud of it!
I choose not to post regularly because I believe I am still learning, 3 years serious training plus several years of clueless weight training under my belt. I play rugby and train for power and strength, although recently I’ve become interested with the ‘bodybuilding’ type of training for mass/asthetics.

My nutrition is far from perfect, my body type is far from perfect(ie beer gut opposed to 6pack), but my strength is excellent (and improving…thank you T-mag)
When I feel I can teach others I will start to post more. Peace

More people losing their virginity here then a state-school sorority house on bid night

Gonta and Dave2 - Nice contribution. Well said! Now how about you suck up that small man angst and post something worthwhile.

I was a lurker here for a good 12 months before I posted, reading everything I could, experimenting in the gym, with my diet, and with my lifestyle. When I started to feel like I had something to offer or to share from my experiences, I decided to post.

Personally, I think posting is a good idea, depending on what you post. There is a huge amount of knowledge on this site, and not all of it is written down. The only way to learn if you can’t find something is to ask questions and experiment for yourself. Likewise, if you find something works, share it with others.

I find some of the non-training threads good for stress reduction, too. I work in a small firm (there is 5 of us), and I’m the youngest by about 15 years, and the only one who can see their toes. Hence, its good to relate to people who have similar points of view on certain things like health and fitness.

Lurking was good from a knowledge point of view, but posting has enriched the experience.

Lets get something perfectly straight - ok?!?! I have and do contribute - when i think i have something to contribute - that is something besides seeing my name in print. First off i feel qualified to discuss and give advice on wrestling - i have wrestled at an international level. So I post on this

iI feel qualified to give advice on martial arts - I do because i have been involved in ma since i was 6 - mostly shotokan but started brazilian juijitsu bf vroom could spell Gracie.

I feel qualified to talk about nutrition and training - since these have been my hobby since i was in high school - many many years. But I don’t give advice as I believe that there are many guys here with more knowledge than me. So i ask questions but what does vroom do - tells me i have food issues - blah blah blah. What the fuck does he know?

It has happened to some of my friends here as well. They are wayyyyyyyyyyy more knowledgeable than vroom but he berates them with his standard “issue” thing. If he doesn’t agree with them they have issues!!!

So I’ll say it again - people don’t contribute because of guys like vroom who think they know it all.Three of my best friends don’t visit the board as much as they did and do so mainly to order now. It happens on every single board - bar none. There always surfaces a guy or a group of guys who think they own everything because they have an opinion on everything.

By the way vroom i have issue 1 of Test. so I didn’t show up after you proclaimed yourself registered master.

So to sum up - yes it is important to contribute. just shut up vroom. OK my rant over

Gonta, I’ll honestly take what you’ve said into consideration.

At the same time, I will suggest a simple PM or other appropriate means of voicing your opinion would have done the job.

I’ve never claimed to know everything, nor have I claimed that all my advice was right. It’s a public forum, pick and choose what you wish to listen to, disagreement and conflicting opinions are part of the process.

I don’t recall whatever issue it was that has set you off, but I’m fairly certain I’m not the only person who tells people they must eat to gain mass and so on. So, your vandetta seems a little personal in that respect.

Anyhow, all I wanted to do is welcome some lurkers and sponges and get them active in the forums. Sigh.

Well, I believe I found the thread that set this dude off…

More advice from this poster boy, read it and decide for yourself.

How can someone be mad at vroom? I thought everyone loved vroom!

I want a bumper sticker that says “I Love Vroom”

Can you feel the love?

I generally lurk.

The goal in life should never be to please everyone. I would sincerely think there was something wrong if everyone loved everything I did. My goal in life is to make sure I piss off the right people.
