That’s basically where I’m at as well.
Yeah, I would try and get my company to pay for it at least. Thankfully they have a tuition program for STEM fields.
When I was as applying, I asked a professor on adcom whether it would be good if I got some experience in industry first (a lot of people in business schools do), her response was “do you really think industry is for you?” ![]()
We do $5k/year across the board, which is nice, but I’m not coming out of pocket $30k-$40k unless I saw serious $$$$ upside to it.
I totally get this, and actually talked to a patient about it yesterday. She said the same thing, age 28 I think. It was totally relatable. I love tests and they love me. Sometimes I just want to go take an exam and get an A, instead of slogging through the real world, where success is so much less concrete.
I was joking about retaking my 5 hour licensure test for fun (which took me under 3). Good times, that.
Long Bright River - Liz Moore
Wolf Hall - Hilary Mantle
Thoroughly enjoyed both of these. For the US people, I’d recommend Long Bright River, set in the opioid crisis in Philly., but don’t even think about Wolf Hall unless you have a pretty good knowledge of Henry VIII and Thomas Cromwell!
I REALLY liked this one too!!! I didn’t think I would, but it was good!
Bye, Baby by Carola Lovering; 5 Stars
Before We Were Innocent by Ella Berman; 3.5 Stars
The Mystery Guest by Nita Prose; 4 Stars @ChickenLittle and @Polar-Bear this one is a follow-up to The Maid. I know you both read that one and enjoyed it, so you might like this one too. It was another fun one!
One of the Good Guys by Araminta Hall; 4.5 Stars
Family Family by Laurie Frankel; 3.5 Stars
The Girl in 6E by A.R. Torre; 3 Stars
Midnight is the Darkest Hour by Ashley Windstead; 3 Stars
Listen For the Lie by Amy Tintera; 5 Stars

Currently listening to The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer
Thanks! I put it on hold but it says several months wait. Sometimes when it’s that long they will drop off my list.
That’s dumb… lol
And very annoying!
I listened to And Then She Vanished and now onto The Shadows of London. By Nick Jones.
I have already listened to both but can’t remember them…lol
There are two more books in the series so I need to refresh what’s going on. ![]()
Hey, I liked The Maid too 'ya know!
(but honestly, I admit your tastes are usually different than mine)
I’m sorry! It was probably you and not @Polar-Bear! You both start with a “p” so do I at least get points for that? lol
I’m a snob, admittedly. I do love pulp fiction but figured I would share a few that my son and I have read together over the last few months.
The Stranger by Albert Camus (It’s pronounced Camoo - I learned it the hard way).
The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka
Paper Towns by John Green
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky.
All good books in my opinion.
It wasn’t me, but maybe I should try it!
I love John Green! I know it’s supposed to be “young adult” fiction, but I think he’s a great writer. The Fault In Our Stars was his best, imo.
I wrote the curriculum for my school’s Contemp Lit class, it was a senior selective. Typical stuff - go look what we have in the book room and write curriculum for a class. I got to order two or three class sets of books, that was it.
The Fault in our Stars was one of the books I ordered, along with The Art of Racing in the Rain, another great book.
The problem with teaching a book was that you begin to pull the curtain back on the wizard. Green was a little heavy handed with his foreshadowing - as was every other author when you look deep enough.
I was pissed when Gus withheld his diagnosis.
Anyhoo, good book!
The Art Of Racing In The Rain was great! Thoroughly enjoyed that one too! Have you read The Art Of Fielding? Similar but aimed at adults rather than YA.
I listened to all 4 books of the Jospeh Bridgeman series by Nick Jones
And Then She Vanished
The Shadows of London
The Observer Effect
The Quantum Chain
Don’t know if there will be anymore in this series or not… kinda hope so.
A couple of sci-fi losers.
Finally! The new Orphan X Lone Wolf by Gregg Hurwitz Yay!
I liked it. Nice cliffhanger at the end ![]()
