How is Hemingway’s Boat? One of my favorite authors but have not read too much biographical stuff about him.
A Farewell To Arms is one of the best novels I have ever read and is quite haunting when on starts to think deeply about it.
Its a good read. I’ve been to his houses in Chicago and Key West and tried to steal his typewriter (alcohol was involved, and those six-toed cats were narcs.) Apparently the coast guard had to tell him to stop machine-gunning whales.
Farewell to arms is one of my favorites.
The first time I seriously read him was in a class about war in literature. We started with the Illiad, then went through The Art of War, Carl von Clausewitz, The Red Badge of Courage, All Quiet on the Western Front, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Dispatches, MASH, Jarhead, and so on.
If you want more biographical stuff, one of his grandsons wrote this.
The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch by Philip K Dick
Just going for the highlight reel. Too many to list sonce the last time.
A few more William Kent Krueger. Almost finished with the series. Going to see how badly he can make me hate the main characters by the end ![]()
New releases…
Tides of Fire- James Rollins
Yes!!! Sigma Force is back!
Dead Mountain- Preston and Child. @punnyguy
I have finally figured out what my beef with this series is, it’s the narrator, not the story.
I find that the characters as fleshed out by the voice I’m hearing, never live up to the ones conjured up by my imagination. That’s why I have to read all books at a (old!) snail’s pace.
No doubt a narrator can make or break a book. I think the majority are good, some great, but others just don’t have what it takes. I loved the book Bag of Bones but, cannot stand to listen to Stephen King reading his own book ![]()
God doesn’t give with both hands LOL.
Against The Gods by Peter L. Bernstein
Finished “The Devils Element”
All about phosphorus and it’s overuse in big agriculture and how that is contributing to toxic Cyanobacteria blooms.
A Visit From The Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan. Big thumbs up from me!
Currently reading:
The Gulag Archipelago Volume 1: An Experiment in Literary Investigation
Incredible thus far!
What a story! I found it fascinating.
That’s what I’ve heard, which is good because I have three of his books lined to read, lol.
