I have read this one and Dead Wake.
I also liked In the Heart of the Sea- Nathaniel Philbrick.
Dead Wake is one of the other ones I have. The other one is the Nazi one, something Garden* maybe. I forget.
Nathaniel Philbrick is great. I highly recommend Valiant Ambition it was really good.
*In the Garden of Beasts - I knew it was something with a garden, lol.
I have read Valiant Ambition. I had read fictional books about the culper ring and found it interesting how it all played out.
Iāve been meaning to read Brian Kilmeadeās book on the culper ring. It think itās called Washington and the Secret Six or something like that. Kilmeadeās another author I enjoy, his books are a breeze to get through. My favorite is Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates
I went through an early American history phase a while back. Revolutionary Summer is by far my favorite book on the subject. Ellis is another great author.
I just downloaded it. Thanks for the recommendation!
Iāve been quiet on TN in part because Iāve been reading a great deal.
For those of you who like chick-lit, I highly recommend Liane Moriarity. Sheās a big favorite of the Reese Whitherspoon crowd, and her books keep popping up as limited TV series, which I donāt bother watching. I donāt do a lot of Audible (Andrew Huberman has my heart when it comes to listening), so I donāt know what the readers are like, but the books are good fun.
Iām currently reading The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker. Itās long - I think 800 pages - and Iām only reading it because my (voracious reader) son recommended it as ādelightful,ā and itās been a while since Iāve taken a recommendation from him. I really, really need him to read All The Light We Cannot See, though, so a little give and take is necessary. Golem is set in turn-of-the-century immigrant New York, with the Golem and the Jinni stuck there, trying to navigate their lives as supernatural creatures. Heās right, itās a very good book. Itās not as character-driven as I prefer, but good for anyone who likes world-building (as my son does).
Ask Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keane - LOVED this and couldnāt read it fast enough. It touches on my work, which may have something to do with my appreciation of it.
Trust by Hernan Diaz - Pulitzer Prize winner, very, very good book.
The Five-Star Weekend by Elin Hilderbrand - I see this author everywhere and was looking for a beach read, so thought Iād give it a shot. Total bullshit book in my opinion. Justā¦girly-ass drivel.
Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus - loved this.
Anxious People by Fredrik Backman - loved this so much! The author wrote A Man Called Ove/Otto, which was an excellent movie with Tom Hanks (Ottoā¦Ove was a subtitled Swedish film). Then I tried his My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You Sheās Sorry and didnāt like it (world-building!).
I love Frederick Backman! For me, his best books are the Beartown trilogy. Theyāre very different to his other books, much more āliteraryā.
Okay, good to know! Iāll add those to the list.
I actually belly-laughed during Anxious People, and also started legitimately crying - to the extent that my husband nervously hugged me. There was other stuff going on for me at the time (sad work stuff), but still, both reactions are pretty rare for me. Iām not usually the first one to laugh or cry at movies. I just loved that book so much.
I LOVE her books too! Big Little Lies was great as a book and the HBO series. Iāve read a lot of her books and have enjoyed every single one of them!
I liked this one two! It still lives rent-free in my brain!
This is one of my favorites of all time now! LOVE IT.
Iām a big Frederick Backman fan too! In addition to the ones you listed, I also really liked Britt-Marie was Here.
Itās been a good long time since Iāve posted an update, so I have a list!

I actually almost tagged you! But then Iād called it āchick-lit,ā which I worried might be an insult on these boards, lol. But her books absolutely delight the feminine part of my heart.
Yes, mine too.
The Ruins by Scott Smith - I was expecting horror that had to do with a lost civilizations, this was definitely not about that
A wing and a prayer non-fiction about the plight of birds in the US and Canada. Studies show we have lost ~3 billion birds in the last 50 years. Thatās a decline of 50%. Interesting read so far if you are into conservation.
Written by journalists and not really scientists so it tries to craft a compelling narrative as opposed to just raw data.
If youāre into that kind of book, Mark Kurlansky has some good ones on cod and salmon. Not necessarily about conservation but a little bit, and theyāre interesting reads either way.
Why Fish Donāt Exist: A Story of Loss, Love, and the Hidden Order of Life by Lulu Miller might be another.
Miller is a science journalist for NPR. This isnāt about conservation, either, but itās a very good and interesting book.
Part biography, part memoir, part scientific adventure, Why Fish Donāt Exist is a wondrous fable about how to persevere in a world where chaos will always prevail.
Another good one was The Rabbit Hutch by Tess Gunty. @QuadQueen
This one has been on my TBR forever! Iām going to check it out now!!
