What Are You Reading?

Finished up Thus Spoke Zarathustra last week. Challenging read. I can see myself going back to it multiple times

Currently working on Worth Defending by Richard Bresler about his time in Gracie BJJ.

I read some of the Mitch Rapp novels too - seeing as you seem to read a few of the same things I do, I’d suggest Steel Fear - a really well-written thriller about a serial killer onboard a naval aircraft carrier. Couldn’t put it down.

Thanks! I put it on the wish list. Sounds interesting.

Went on vacation and started, but didn’t finish, way too many books.

Spain in our hearts - Adam Hocschild - About the American’s who went to fight fascism in Spain. Interesting read, but doesn’t have quite enough information about what led up to the fighting
Seawolf - Jack London - Awesome book, that guy was really into eugenics (book is awesome, not eugenics)
Kitchen Confidential - Anthony Bourdain - His tone at the beginning was really grinding my gears, then I realized that it was the tone of a 20 something cocky chef.
Crime and Punishment - Dostoevsky - Took me 10 pages to realize this is not a beach read. Will wait for winter when I am nice and depressed to read.

I’ve enjoyed all the previous books in this series, so I fully plan to read this one.

Is it possible the scathing reviews are due to the fact that Rowling the person is no longer “liked”…?

(I am 55th on the Kindle wait list for my library; unfortunately, too many people are ignoring bad reviews…)

They say some whole chapters are text room chats. I dunno.

Well, reading the book will definitely give me another data point as to the worthiness of current day “reviews”, of anything lol.

I just finished book 2 (of 3) of Baldacci’s Aloysius Archer series, set in post WWII America. Enjoying the old time setting, and getting a big kick out of the fact that smoking is constant, and ubiquitous LOL.

Exactly!
There were many bad reviews of The Demon Crown by James Rollins but I loved it… lol
The newest Oregon Files (Clive Cussler) by Mike Madden was released today, and I’m about 1/2 way through it.

I read the first Archer book but not the others.

Finished Hellburner by Mike Madden. Wasn’t awful but definitely not Cussler either.

A couple silly ones.

Now on to Where the Crawdads Sing. Because several of my ladies have suggested it, and apparentlywant to dicuss. Honestly don’t know if I will finish this one. I thought there was supposed to be a mystery in here somewhere. Haven’t found it yet. There is simply nothing about this so far has grabbed my attention, and I am half way through it.

Thank God the second half was better than the first! If she would have condensed that nonsense in the first half this would have been a great book.

Made it about 75% through the book. Points were pretty repetitive. It is eye opening to how much big tech and the WEF are trying to change society as we know it and how that played into the response to the pandemic. Also goes into the bad data reporting that fueled the pandemic fear. If you don’t outright believe the COVID narrative presented I recommend a read of at least the first half of this book.

Now reading
“In the Buddhas Words: An anthology of discourses in the Pali Cannon”.

Right??? I totally agree with you on this. Like, save a tree…

I gave it a 4-star rating on Goodreads and I rarely give a full 5-stars, so it was pretty dang good!

The Comfort Crisis is a good read.

If you’re looking for mindless fiction (and who isn’t): Demons are Dicks (Ronan) great weightlifting stuff in this and the others in the series; Also (self plug): my own book (also mindless fiction, Demons Are Like Cockroaches) is out Sept 29, with a lot weightlifting and humor.
