About 2 weeks ago, I took off the tricep rope from a cable machine and clipped on the wide pulldown attachment instead, which is about 3 feet long, solid metal and pretty heavy.
Anyway, I went to do my set of straight-arm pushdowns for some lat isolation, and realised that the weight was to heavy.
I bent down to the stack and pulled the pin out. Donk! Went the bar, on the top of my head as the extra weight of the thing overcame the weight of the stacl without any plates on it.
Fortunately, only 4 other people were in there at the time, however they were all pointing at me and laughing.

LOL I’ve done that to myself probably a dozen times.

I said something to the effect of “wow…don’t know what happened there” he replied: “You got pinned by the weight on your chest.”
That is a funny reply.
Here’s mine: It was my 2nd year in undergrad. My roommate and I had a decent setup in our dorm room (straight bar, ez curl bar, adjustable dbs, plates). We were about to head out to the bars after a few warmup beers when I ran back into my room to get something. I spied the curl bar with about 40 lbs on it and decided to pump up with a quick set of “speed” curls.
So, I’m cranking them out when I decide to look down at the bar (wtf?) as I’m curling it up. SMACK! right across the bridge of my nose. My nose swelled up pretty good and bled through the skin and I got a little mouse under each eye. Fucking tool, I was.
I split a pair of jeans squatting today. Granted, I was home and alone, but it was still a pretty stupid thing to do, seeing as I was wearing jeans like an asshole.

I damn near knocked myself out warming up with 135 for push jerks. I wasn’t focused and I drove the bar directly into the bottom of my chin. I saw stars for a few seconds, then finished the set. Now I always remember to get my fat head out of the way. Lesson learned. The worst part was the gash I opened on my chin bled all over one of my favorite t-shirts.
I have also lost my balance with a fairly heavy weight overhead in the power rack. So naturally, I dumped it forward, caught both J-hooks, and tipped the rack directly into the mirror behind it. CRASH! The gym owner wasn’t too happy with me after that. But, I cleaned up the glass, paid for the mirror, and all was well.
If you’re gonna fuck up, might as well go big, right?
Don’t they bolt power racks to the floor where you’re from?
Nope. I’ve never seen a power rack bolted to the floor.

I find this surprising. I’ve seen a power rack not bolted to the ground exactly once. It also sported an ‘out of order’ sign until they bolted it down [there were other racks available]. Considering how sue happy I’m led to believe America is, I would think gyms there would be more careful than here.

Maybe they just have better liability clauses.
Yeah, it surprises me too. But, the gym I currently go to rearranges their shit about once a month, because they are fairly new and are always buying new stuff. In that case, I think it’s understandable.
I should also mention that 99% of the time, I lift in non-commercial gyms. Maybe they don’t think of the possible ramifications.
squatting in a smith machine, went too rack the weight(which i had been quarter squatting) missed the pins and got pinned underneath the bar, had to get two people too deadlift the weight off me
after finding T-Nation
ripped two pairs of board shorts whilst squatting and three pairs of underwear
doing dips the gym belt broke 30kg of plates smashed on to the ground, i went flying up lol
im sure i’ve done stupider things but i cant think of anything else at the current time

I don’ know that I have ever seen one bolted down. I know they are supposed to be.
I was doing seated overhead press about 2 weeks ago with about 135lbs on it; and when I went ot rerack the weight, I put the bar over the ‘stopper’ and had to dump the weight or tear my shoulder. (My shoulder is fine today)
I’m tall (6’-1") and just cleared the stopper…whoops!
Luckily it was break week at RIT where I lift…and there was about 6 people training. NO one got hurt; just my pride a little.
