gl this week… any time to hit the beach in PR?
thanks MiM. Looks like I need to extend my trip by a couple of days. I’ll have close to zero down time but I did spend a few minutes on a beach taking in the sea air last night . Nice. Overall it’s going well but the real work starts tomorrow.
Missed my daughter’s 9th birthday on Sunday so that’s not awesome.

Awww! My dad missed my birthday for travel all the time growing up, and look how well I turned out! =D
Lol! That’s not funny…its the meds.
Don’t worry, a daddy/daughter day will fix everything upon your return. In the meantime, try to get some more of that beach time, even if at night. A nice cigar and some rum…ah…
Nice DLing, my friend! Great stuff.

I don’t travel that much (although that may change somewhat) so it doesn’t happen often. But she’s going to get pretty much whatever she wants when I get back, lol.
A nice cigar and some rum?? How do you know me so well? haha.

I was expecting at least a day of eatting seafood off of beautiful island girls.
I bet your daughter will be so glad when you get home that she won’t even remember her birthday.
Well I did have some delicious halibut served by a knee-weakening hostess last night. Alas, the food was eaten off a plate. But I have 3 more days here…
Yeah the birthday thing is more about me than her. Taking the day off Friday and we’ll do something fun together.

I always enjoy your sumo pulling videos. Wish I could do it like that.
Its a bit warm in the shed for long pants, don’t you think?
Hi Miss Kimba(licious)!
Don’t worry, your sumo vids have considerable…appeal…just the way they are.
It IS warm in the shed but Dling with shorts is much harder on my legs since I try to drag the bar up.
Speaking of warm, holy crap Puerto Rico is humid! And I see people out jogging. I’m pretty sure I would NEED a nice air conditioned gym if I was training down here. Doubt I could get used to it.
Box squats (5s day)
bar x 5
95 x 5
135 x 3
185 x 3
…
225 x 5
255 x 5
290 x 5…prescribed reps. Wasn’t getting another. Vid.
High squats to pins (quads mostly and DL assistance exercise)
290 x 3
315 x 3
335 x 3
355 x 3
385 x 3
385 x 1…vid. Was hoping for another 3 but I was gassed.
Nice work man, way to fight through, I never box squatted before, Im gonna continue my squatting everyday I train (some form) tomorrow, do you think a high box squat serves any purpose? cuz the way I see it I could only use a bench as thats all that would be available, and the box squat would be a couple inches above parallel I would think.
have you found the box squats helping for regular squats? or have you tried without the since starting box squats?
You can never go wrong with Led Zep! I had my air guitar turned up to 11 when “Since I’ve been Loving You” came on, lol. The boys knew how to do drama.
Actually, I’m going to run box squats for two 5/3/1 cycles and then see if it helps my regular squats. My regular squat is crap coming out of the hole. Since there is little stretch reflex at the bottom, I find them friggin’ hard.

I’m a box squat newbie but I have found that any high squat, to a box or pins, always hammers my quads which is a good thing since…a) your legs get more jacked and chicks dig that, and b) I am convinced that this carries over to my deads since it is the quads that initially break it off the floor.
I tried touch and go box squats (more to judge depth) but I didn’t like them. Similar to touch and go deads, I just don’t like the feel. It throws me off. I like to unload at the bottom.
Push press
90 x 3
110 x 3
130 x 3
150 x 3
165 x 4…had 5 but lost my groove
155 x 3,3,3
1-arm DB press
50 x 6
65 x 5
50 x 11
30 minute break to do fielding and pitching practice with the boy. The kid is good. The best part was when we are done and he gives me the thumbs up “Good job, Dad”. Thanks Son
Daughter was working on her soccer goalkeeper skills with my wife. She is catching on quick and was having fun with it. A real family affair.
Was going to do deads last night but got hijacked by co-workers to have beer and nachos. Baseball game tonight. Try again tomorrow.
Anyway, the training highlight was my son announcing that he will be competing in a paddling competition at the end of summer. He will be getting some specific training from the club he goes to. It is primarily a summer camp for kids but there are some skilled paddlers there.
He looked at me and calmly stated “I’m going to win.”. High-five little man.
