Westside Makes You Sexy

I’m doing box squats for a while primarily to see if it helps with explosive power out of the hole 'cause mine is the suck. Bonus would be if it trains me to not pitch forward on the way up when the weight gets heavy and if it brings up my hams.

I am finding them harder than regular squats because of the dead-stop nature. They are supposed to carryover to deads pretty well because of this.

I gotta get in on these too, anything to help my DL, and not GMing my squats.

JM presses baffle me in terms of form.

Cute pic of your daughter.

And how’s it going with Vanessa?
Yeah, the whole Vanessa thing didn’t work out. She just kind of disappeared.
And my wife just built a new flower garden in the back. Waitaminute.

My daughter is super cute. She was trying so hard to do chinups with this huge smile on her face and then we worked on her pushups. She was very excited to write down her sets and reps.

Aw! that’s cute  I wish my dad had asked me to write down his numbers instead of asking me to empty his ashtray and make him a Turkish coffee. Oh well!

Did your dad take sugar in his turkish coffee? Did you have to grind the beans yourself? Did your dad wear a fedora and spend his days smoking thin cigars and plotting against the government?

Fine squatting dude and even better with the assist from your daughter.

I’m not sure how I feel about box squats for the non-geared lifter so let me know what you think after a bit.
Kids watching from 6 feet in front of you, as you are busting out your squat face, is a bit distracting.

As far as gear goes, they usually only wear briefs or suit bottoms. I’m guessing it is because of the super wide stance. Mine isn’t that wide and my hips never bother me. And, frankly, the weight ain’t that heavy.

You mention trying to get your squat stance out a bit wider. If you are having flexibility issues the box will help. Based on how it feels when I do them, going wide stance and keeping a tight arch down to, and while on, the box will build that flexibility.

Yes.
Of course!
And he wore an ascot, smoked Reds and plotted in cahoots.

Now you understand why I have daddy issues?

perhaps your planned would have worked if your masseuse would have been Victor rather than Vanessa

I’ve had exactly 2 massages in my life, both by women and both were disappointing. Hands weren’t strong enough. I’m very much a therapeutic vs. relaxing massage type. If I’m paying I like to know I’m getting my money’s worth. Bring the pain! Something in the 7-8 out of 10 (where you are tapping out) range.

Victor probably would have been better for recovery.

There is an indie film in there somewhere. With a strong heroine with a mysterious tattoo that holds the key to the mystery.

I totally agree. The bigger and stronger the guy, the better. I’ve had my traps worked on and hit 9.5 - 10. When it’s really painful I always end up laughing. I don’t know why that is.

Oh and he’s got to be a great kisser!

Nice Box squats

FWIW

I did them for a while a few months, and I got better at being able to generate power
and speed

I took a massage license years ago and did ok with it but I was too young to have much business sense
the best advice I can give is to treat it like a barber or hair stylist-
give good instructions on what you like

Ummm…you’ve seen my head, right? ha

I’m going to run box squats for a few cycles of 5/3/1. Haven’t really decided how many.

Best thing I’ve learned to say was “really work the knots out. I lift heavy and I need those undone”. I might even mention sore spots - “spend more time on shoulders and lower back and less on my hands and calves”…

The pain I have felt from this day on is glorious.

before I felt like they were simply rubbing my down. um thanks but no thanks.

Just checked your thread, Git. Your daughter is adorable! And you even turned it into a math lesson.

Good squatting. Box squats really separate the men from the boys (or the women from the girls).

Thanks Cav. Yeah, she is definitely Daddy’s little girl. I have the best kids EVER…not that I’m biased or anything

I’m curious to see if box squats help drive my squat numbers up or just make me better at box squatting. It’s a bit of an experiment.

Bench (3s day) +

bar x 5
95 x 5
135 x 3
155 x 3
185 x 3
215 x 3…was tempted to go heavier but I’m sticking to the progression schedule
205 x 5 x 3

Pendlay rows…just to see what all the excitement is about. Very strict.
130 x 8
150 x 8
180 x 8
200 x 8, 8
I like that with these there is little eccentric braking required. You just do a controlled drop to the floor like a DL. The other movement I like a lot is rows from pins with upper body at about 45 degrees. Again not much low back stress due to braking. It will be interesting to see if I’m sore tomorrow and where.

Pushups…hands elevated 4", chest to floor for pec stretch
20, 20, 18

I laugh sometimes during ART treatments.

Interesting.
I’ve recently had a couple of ART sessions on my shoulder and I think it is getting better. The basic test is how much discomfort do I feel when I put my arm behind my back. It is less. I’ll go a couple more sessions and see where I am.

I was kind of hoping for more pain when she was doing her ART thing so I knew I was getting my money’s worth.

Perhaps you’d like it better if she used a whip and was dressed in a black leather corset?

Just a wild guess.

Ya know, I never really understood the appeal of whips. Corsets on the other hand…
