Westside Makes You Sexy

It’s called “bands” and “reverse bands” as far as I know. I don’t train bands at all right now. The reverse band squats will really help you train your CNS as far as the walkouts and top portion of the lift go. And I have serious challenges with walkouts.

So why did you narrow your squat stance?

Gee, I’m sorry to hear that bailing on the old stress-laden job did not make Ms. Git feel more amorous in the bedroom. [/quote]

Bands and reverse bands…well, that makes a lot of sense. I was really hoping to use my bands last night with squats but my life schedule didn’t permit. Now that soccer is ramping up again, and the under 12s want him to practice with them in addition to his regular under 10 team, he has soccer almost every.damn.night. I need to work out a defined schedule with my wife so I get predictable training time.

I think I narrowed my stance based on all the Oly blah-de-blah goin’ on. But it makes no sense for me if my goal at this point is just trying to be stronger. My normal stance is not super-wide anyway as it is 2-3 inches or so outside shoulder width on each side.

Unfortunately, Mrs. Git is one to put stress on herself regardless of where she works. Her new job, while quite different than her last, has developed its own stressors. So, amorous is largely a special event.
C’mon lottery ticket!

I could use one of those lottery tickets as well.

Does she not realize that amorous events ARE stress-relievers?

Okay. Enough.

I thought we stopped this? I’m going to make Kimba punish you…with tickle torture!

Nice shoulder work, sexy.

and btw, I liked the old avi - you’re back, its big

MfromM, it’s not done yet but I’m definitely going to need it.

Snap, I don’t understand why your wise perspective is not more common.

Maschy, I’ve been a very good boy lately. But the fridge was empty and I needed some calories. I’ll probably put up another pic when I am not so pasty white.

I agree with Maschy, the old avatar was much more impressive.

Git, what was the source of the bench routine you suggested to me a couple of weeks ago? It’s doing good things for me.

Hey Cav, the bench advice was just from reading and experience. The more I think of the sets before my top set(s) as just getting my mind and body ready, rather than making me bigger or stronger, the better. Primed but not fatigued. Keep them explosive as possible to get the CNS (yes, I said the C word) ramped up. Then get some hard sets in.

If I rush the warm-up (which is pretty common) or if I go too hard during the warmup (not as common) then I’m not as ready.

Am I wrong or do you pretty much only do shoulders at the commercial gym?

Pretty good session given the fuel in the tank. That’s a lot of pressing.

A keen eye you have. I just seems to work out that way lately based on my schedule.

Now I prefer to do squat, bench and deads at home so I don’t need to mind my manners (commercial gym is a wimpfest). But smaller stuff like shoulders, arms, whatever I can train at the commercial gym and it seems to work out OK.

OK, so it’s a standard pyramid. I’ve always tended to over-analyze bench. Always done pyramids of sorts, but other factors can explain recent success.

There are no secrets. Now that you are not beating yourself up on the warm up sets, you have more in the tank. Works exactly the same with squats and deads.

Deads +

Last deads session was about 2 weeks ago. Low back was feeling off. Heavy squats a few days ago seems to have fixed it. Something must be out of alignment.

Technically a deload week (if you follow 5/3/1 to the letter) but I don’t really do that. Life usually throws in an extra day off here and there.

I moved some furniture for my mom after work and she fed me a lovely steak dinner. Downside is I was pretty bloated when I got home. Vids don’t lie.

Deads
135 x 5
225 x 5
285 x 3
315 x 3
365 x 1
405 x 1…vid. Went up fast.
After reading some stuff by Bolton, I’m coming around to the idea that the only thing I really need to think about is bar speed. If I start thinking about form, or if the weight is on my heels, or how many reps I got last time, or how many I’m supposed to get this time, blahblah then shit goes bad. Speed is my new mantra.
That being said…
455 x 1…vid. I started thinking about the weight and not the goal…speed. And it stalled.

Speed deads with bands (my new little friends will help me beat the stall)
225 + monster minis (about 60lbs at the bottom and 100 at the top)
x 3
x 5
x 4
x 3…best rep number for these
x 3

Deadstop 1 arm DB rows
100 x 5
150 x 5
100 x 5 x 5…basically did this as one long set (50 reps). Kinda started to suck at the end.

Wide grip pullups
5, 5, 5
alternating with
Leg raise toes to bar
10, 10

Leg curls
3 x 20…again from Bolton. Assistance is high rep.

Cool to see how to use the monster minis.

Guess what I’ll be trying next week.

It takes a bit of getting used to since you can feel them under your feet. But seems to work OK.

Those monster minis look like fun…gotta get me some of those. Great work, great music…if you want blood is a fave of mine to DL to.

Or not. I’ve learned the hard way. For me, it has to be form over reps or I break shit, especially when it comes to the ‘big’ lifts.

Actually, I agree with your position more firmly all the time.
