Westside Makes You Sexy(er)

Thanks Blueline

Tate Plan, Week 5, Day 2, ME Upper
Floor press
135 x3
155 x 3
185 x 3
205 x 3
225 x 1
240 x 1
250 x 1…PR +5lbs (sorta, butt came up a bit). Not sure if I’ll try the same weight next week or go heavier

JM press
135 x 3
155 x 3
165 x 3
175 x 2 x 3…Felt a bit stronger than last week

Incline DB
40s x 10
65s x 2 x 10…a bit stronger than last time

Seated DB cleans - I am really liking these
30s x 4 x 8

HLRs - these I will never like
5 x 15

Thats a PR regardless of butt lift.

I’ve had a nose bleed twice on DL’s but never on squats.

It was weird. Just had some crazy pressure in my head for some reason.

Nice job on the floor press PR buddaay!! I used to do JM presses all the time, do you find them more effective than say… close grip bench??

Thanks, fellow Canuckle-head

Honestly, I had a debate with myself last night over exectly that…what is going to help more? JMs or close grip? But then I forced myself to stick to the Tate program and do what he says (JM presses in this case) so I have a baseline for future programming.

If I had to choose I would probably pick close grip. And you can’t really track PRs with JMs since an inch higher / lower or an inch closer / further away from your face makes a huge difference. No reason you can’t do both movements, though.

Best tricep exercise I ever found (for adding more lockout) was close grip board presses. Bar none.

I believe it. What board height? 3 board?

Had some chain that was too light to bother using for resistance. So, bought a couple of anchor brackets, cut to size and shazam, I’m all set for chain-suspended GMs, squats, zerchers and a bunch of other shit that I don’t know about.

KB swings (since I was there)
50lb x 2 x 20

Yeah, 3 board. I have a wingspan like a gibbon but I don’t like going any higher than that. Found the 3 board was pretty much constant tension on my triceps. Really carried over for my OHP and push press too.

Tate Plan, Week 5, Day 3, DE squats

Box squats - back to 50% of max
205 x 10 x 2

Speed deads - first DLs in about 6 weeks. First set was a bit rusty but the others felt good. Was supposed to do 50% but added some bands to make it half interesting.
225 + short bands (+75 at top) x 8 x 2

Chain-suspended GMs (subbed for reverse hypers and GHRs)

  • I see great potential for working these at various heights / weights
    135 x 8
    185 x 3 x 8
    205 x 2 x 8

Chest supported Db rows
65s x 4 x 8

Ab wheel with chain on neck
5 x 10

Git,

I LOVE when the whole house shakes when you do DLs! Now that’s gangsta…LOL

P.S. You seemed bored with that lift though by the look on your face…

^ that’s my “I own these weights” face, lol.

Yep x2 on the shaking camera thing. I want to make the camera shake with my DLs too.

I LOVE that suspended GM stuff! I saw old videos of dave tate and jim wendler doing that kinda stuff from some westside dvd’s or something. I always thought it looked so bad ass, ha.

You have a big DL (I was peeping your threesome log). You just need to drop them from knee height. Too bad most gyms seem to have a problem with this since it is a back saver :frowning:

hey!
I found the bottom-up GMs quite different, and harder, than starting from a standing position. Must be that whole dead-stop thing.

Tate Plan, Week 5, Day 4 DE bench day

135 + doubled micro-minis
10 x 3
185 x 1
205 x 1
225 x 1

  • biceps were really bothering me. Aggravated by squats yesterday. I’m going to look online tonight for sleeves.

Close grip bench
185 x 3
205 x 3
215 x 2.8 - arms kicked
switched to 2 board
205 x 5
215 x 3
225 x 2

Front plate raises

  • bunch of warmup sets
    45 x 3 x 10

hey Git, can’t really tell from the squat vids, but have you tried thumb over the bar (i.e. false grip) when squatting? it relieve some pressure from shoulders/bicep/elbows…I’ve starting that and not hard to get use to.

Actually, I recently switched to false grip mostly to give my wrists a break. And come to think of it, I does seem that it is easier on other stuff. But after about 7-8 sets of squats I still get some aching in my upper arms. Sitting here now they feel pretty much fine. Not 100% but pretty good.

Got my Rehband elbow sleeves orders from Jackal’s. Watch out bitches…it’s gonna be a PR-fest in here soon!
(or at least pain-free, I hope)
