Westside Makes You Sexy(er)

Nice PR!

You know I was wondering…will you need to change the title of your next log, since you’re now on the Dave Tate plan? Or is that still kind of Westside. Dave Tate makes you sexy(er) seems to have different connotations.

Hope you and your beautiful Valentine had a nice night. And by nice, I mean boomchickabowwow.

Well, the Tate Plan is just a basic 9 week Westside template he included in an article a while back. Life is a little crazy these days so I left the programming to him so I wouldn’t have to think too much. So I think I’m safe with the current title. I agree that “Dave Tate makes you Sexy(er)” would be a little too…familiar.

And my night was super-dee-duper nice, thanks for the positive vibes.

Some good liftin’ goin’ on in here from a fellow Canuck  Go get 'em!

Congrats on the PR.

Sounds like all is well in here. Good work!

Extra stuff:
Pushups
3 x 20

Ab rollouts using my black roller (ab wheel broken). Gives a bonus arm massage.
5 x 10

Band pullaparts.
x 100

nice floor press PR

tear it up

Late to the party, that was an awesome PR congrats brother…

Thanks kmc and Matty. Baby steps.

Tate Plan, Week 4, Day 3, DE squat day

Box Squats - 60% of max then up to a solid double
bar x 3
95 x 3
135 x 3
185 x 3
205 x 3
225 x 3

245 x 10 x 2 - felt solid and fast. Working on driving knees out and pop at the top.
275 x 2
295 x 2
315 x 2
335 x 2
355 x 2
I was pretty much done with squatting at this point. Having a hard time keeping my upper back tight and my wrists hurt.

Reverse Hypers
5 x 8 - did bodyweight off end of bench. Meh.

GHRs - substituted band GMs.
Two light bands x 4 x 10

Hanging leg raises
4 x 10

Chest supported DB rows
40s x 8
65s x 4 x 8
Switched to standing then 40s x 30 (mad pumpz)

Just checking in, congrats on the PR. Work looks solid as always.

I like the extra workouts Git !

rev hyper, maybe add heavy ankle weights or rig a band under the table (DB?) and around the ankles?

OMG I had to come give you props for the meme (i don’t really know what a meme is but I think that’s what it was?) you put up in SAMA. I’ve never posted outside of training logs and I didn’t think I should pop my cherry by posting OMG GIT!! Anyway, that like, totally summed up my reaction.

sorry if I’ve missed this…do you regular back squat, or is it just box squatting for a phase?

I’m starting to see how the extra stuff fits in. Particularly high-rep upper back work.

Yeah, I did try to McGyver something before with a band. Got frustrating but I’ll give it another go.

I know, right? What the hell is going on over there?

I’m just box squatting for a couple of months. This is a bit of an exercise in getting my lifts to go up by not directly doing them heavy, lol. But you work movements that translate for strength and force production (bar speed).

For 2 months:

  • no free squats but heavy and speed box squat days
  • no heavy bench but speed bench in the 50-60% range and heavy bench variations like board presses and floor presses
  • no heavy DLs but some speed deads in the 50-60% range on two occasions

We’ll see what happens.

Hey Git good work, maybe try some heavy partial squats in the 450 range or heavier. Just a idea.

Oh hey, I was going to come lol at your meme too!

Yup Lula, it was a meme. And a totally fitting one.

I thought interjecting with lulz may not go over well.

Oh and thank for all the advice in my log Git!

I like partials and might include them after this training plan runs its course. Or get into more band tension / chains to overload at the top. We’ll see.

Speaking of memes, I sent this my wife saying I wanted her to be my lioness for life. She did a LMAO and showed everyone at work. They are a bunch of 20-something software people so I guess that’s OK.

And, I have to compliment you on your taste and Dirty Pretty choices. I’ve been using many for my schmexy texts. You rock.
