Thanks james. Happy New Year to you and your family!

Thanks Dude. I’ve been peeping your log. You’ve got some strong numbers in there.

mmm prime rib and wine, hope it was as good as it sounds.[/quote]

And a Happy New Year to you! I hope 2012 rocks for you.

It was definitely delicious. I am taking some ibuprofen for my achy arms today though :frowning:

Happy New Year, Git!!

I foresee more great training in 2012! Woot woot! And a nice bicep massage from the lil’ lady…ahhh

^^^ a bicep massage sounds nice. I’ve started paying my daughter to beat up on my back. She thinks it’s fun and she makes a few bucks. I’ll have to give her a rolling pin or something to work my arms.

DE Lower

  • dragging my ass today due to a couple of nights of insomnia
  • i find that being sleep deprived affects my motivation to get my ass in the gym but it has no noticeable effect on strength or performance once I get in there.

Box squats

  • dropped the weight a bit, no bands
  • i’m going to do a wave of increasing straight weight and then a wave of bands

205 x 12 x 2

Speed DLs
135 x 1
225 x 2 x 1
245 x 2 x 1
265 x 10 x 1

Speed DLs off my new blocks

  • just testing them
  • 3.75" inch high puts them mid-shin. I’ll add height underneath if needed
    265 x 5 x 1

Trap bar Shrugs
3 x 15

Insomnia affects me much the same: mood and motivation take a big hit, but actual gym performance not so much.

Hope your sleep issues get sorted out ASAP. Can’t be starting out your kick-ass 2012 all tired.

LOL I get my daughter to march on my back every night! shes about 65 lbs so its perfect pressure, sometimes she gets a bit overzealous and jumps up and down but the reward outweighs the risk.

Happy New Year bro!

Hey Kimba. It’s been a bit of a rough start to the year (my stress level is about 9.3 out of 10 this past week) but it will get sorted out.

Matty, my girl is getting close to 90lbs she just sticks to elbows now

DE Upper day

  • high rep DB curls to warm up biceps

Speed bench
115 + doubled micro-minis
9 x 3 various grips

  • backed off the weight a bit to go easy on my arms

Close grip bench
135 x 5
155 x 5
185 x 8 - add 5lbs next time (thanks Vicki)

Incline DB
40’s x 8 - felt some twinges so stayed light
40ks x 30

Band pullaparts
3 x 30

Trap bar rows
140 x 10
190 x 10
210 x 10 - deadstop from floor
230 x 10 - deadstop

Ab wheel
3 x 10

Tired and stressed going in but felt pretty good.

I’m so sorry! I hate to see our Git stressed.

how’s the bicep tendons feeling? did you get chains yet? If you did some speed bench with a set of chain, it wouldn’t put as much stress on the joints as the bands do…

I’m actually thinking about switching bands w/chains for DE bench every other week.

Hi Snap. Thanks for the thoughts. A friend of mine told me to just “crunch and cruise”…basically, just put your head down and get it done (giterdone?) and then relax and have a cigar. Wise words.

My biceps tendons feel pretty good.

They feel crankiest when the weight gets heavy and the bar gets close to my chest (say, the first 3 inches) and if I lock out really agressively. The bands actually help since they provide some deceleration at the top. So for a little while I’m going to go lighter on DE days and stick with bands and for ME days I’ll be doing 3-5 RMs.

I’m traveling next week and will be in a hotel gym of unknown quality (I suspect machines and dumbbells) so that will give me a chance to do some rehab stuff.

My chain situation is not sorted out yet but I would like to have that option.

ME Lower
This past week was a cluster fuck so I needed to get in the shed for a bit. My work travel plans were changed last minute so tomorrow I fly to Trinidad for a week instead of Turks and Caicos. But I have to be routed through Houston so I’ll be flying for 15 hours tomorrow starting at 6am.
I didn’t want to go too hard since that triggers insomnia on occasion.

High squat to pins
135, 225, 275, 315, 365, 405, 425 x 3

Box pulls (mid-shin)
225, 315, 365, 405 x 5 - Tweaked form a bit and these felt very solid. More weight next time.

Wide grip Pullups (just to say I did some)
2 x 5

Solid work Git. When you say high squats to pins is that high bar or do you mean that it’s short on depth?

Trinidad…lucky bastard. I get to drive through L.A. to Burbank every week for work. Your commute is around a million times cooler than mine.

When I had a cage I loved doing those high squats to pins. They made me feel so much stronger in the hole on a full-range squat. How are they working for you?

Hey James. Short on depth. Not sure exactly…somewhere in the 4-6" high range.

Burbank? Isn’t that where all the cool people hang out?

Thanks for checking in DCA.
I really like the way they teach you to control a heavier than normal weight. I haven’t done them much in the past but will use them more frequently.
I’ll vary pin height and load and see what happens.

And this is important.

When’s your meet? HINT.

Wow, lotsa good werk man. Have a great trip.

Watch this with the volume loud and tell me you don’t want to go lift something heavy!
