Westside Makes You Sexy(er)

It was just announced that Tom Petty is coming to my little town in the spring. He was a big part of my playlist growing up. I’m going. I’m taking my wife. There will be singing and dancing and sexing. Not necessarily in that order.

And he agrees with me…it’s good to be King.
This long jam is better suited to late in the day with a glass of Wild Turkey with a touch of water and a cigar. But it is very good.

So do you have a preference regarding cigars? Just recently introduced to cigars and since I’m a newb I’m taking suggestions.

Do you like them mild or a bigger taste?

Move to Canada so you can get Cubans?

well if your the King, you sure treat your wife as the queen ! Awesome

oh, why 12 sets of speed bench? I normally stick to 3 sets of 3 reps at close/mid/comp grips…

She is a queen! Well, to me anyway. Actually, more of a princess since they tend to be hotter.

On the speed bench, I’ve been doing some adjustments to volume to see what happens. At 12 the bar was still moving pretty fast but I was getting fatigued.
I think the standard 9 might be better since I’ll have more juice left in the tank for other movements.

I like them mild, tried a bold and about choaked to death even not inhailing.

The ones I tried were from a shop in TX owned by Cubans, they roll their own there. As I understand it they are essentially Cubans that are legal.
Check this site http://www.elcubanocigars.com the store isn’t up yet but you can call and order them and they’re nicely priced. They were offering 25 cigars for $100.

git, looks like you are well-set-up for a fun weekend. Make the most of it!

I’ll look forward to seeing pictures of the improvements to the shed. Heat, just in the nick of time!

25 for $100 is a great deal. I haven’t smoked cigars much since the kids came along so it is more of a treat now. I understand that some of these “house brand” cigar houses can be a good choice but I haven’t tried any. For name brand options, CAO is a safe choice and I like Romeo y Julietta. If I remember correctly, Upmann were pretty mild.

Cigars are like trying to find a red wine you like. A million choices. I’m actually drinking a bit of Wild Turkey right now. I’d kill for a cigar

Can’t see myself smoking cigars daily at all but once every few weeks would be nice. Me and a buddy we’re talking about getting together for a scotch and cigar night. All this talk of cigars has me jones’n. Will give some of your recommendations a try, thanks. Enjoy your Turkey.

12 sets of speed bench is cray

that is cray for old peoples.

I smoke the occasional cigars -

some of the Cubans are excellent

but some of the domestic are great too

Opuss fuenteXX - game over

Am I on my own in thinking that sets of speed bench isn’t that crazy? It’s not something you see done often, but let’s not forget that the first week of a DE squat cycle often calls for 12x2. Although this is only 24 reps as opposed to 36, I always find my DE squat MUCH more taxing than my DE Bench. Throw in ten sets of speed pulls after, and you’ve almost caught up in total volume, with lifts that are much more demanding. So how ridiculous is 12 sets of speed bench, really? That don’t scare me, brah

Dude, 12 is definitely not scary. Frankly, I feel like I could do a lot more on bench but I’m not sure if the benefit is there. Plus I need to keep sessions reasonably short.

I’ve been reading some of StormTheBeach’s stuff and he goes up to 20+ sets but that is in the Accumulation block with less load (50%).
My DE squat day is a LOT tougher. That kind of messes with my head a bit. I feel like I should be hitting upper day harder. And maybe I should?

I did some math on my last DE speed bench. This felt pretty good. I’ll add 10-20 lbs next time.
bar weight = 45%
band tension at the top = 30%

Are you still training in the dungeon or are you training at the school now?

love me some romeo and julietta’s. Heaven is a mojito on one hand and my cigarillo in the other on a white beach in the sun…

is it february yet?

I agree if your spending time in the south it can’t be ALL work.

I’m guessing nobody here smokes Phillies, if you know what I mean…and if you do, shame on you!! Jk. No judgments

Just saying hi and bye, Git! Have a wonderful week!

R&J’s. Think I might need to crack one tonight with some Macallan’s.

Niiiice. And Macallan is deelicious. Haven’t had that in a while. I think I’ll add it to my xmas wish list

Another favorite cigar single malt for me would be Highland Park. It’s so balanced that it compliments rather than competes with the cigar. I seem to recall that Balvenie Double Wood was a tasty combo as well. Something like Talisker or Lagavulin is so distinctive that it doesn’t work as well with a cigar, for me anyway.

Great, now I need to buy some cigars. Bastids.

Double Wood is great. It used to be even better for me since my ex used to distribute it (–along with Glenfiddich, etc) so it was always available and always free.

The peatier (is that even a word?) malts do compete with cigars. I like Cragganmore (although I go all Brad Pitt Gypsy (see Snatch) on it after a few).

I guess we’ll all be doing Single Malts + Cigars tonight? NL, you in? Masch, maybe a Phillie?

I like Cragganmore too. I have some regular 12 year and some not-so-regular on the shelf (see pic).

Back and shoulders

Rack pulls - bottom hole, 6" below knee. Plates are 5" off floor. I’ll make some platforms so I don’t have to pull from pins. Probably 4" high and add boards on top to adjust height.

135 x 5
185 x 5
225 x 5
275 x 5
315 x 5
365 x 5
405 x 5…felt solid. Add 10-20 lbs next time.

Chest supported DB rows - bench at 45 degrees
65s x 12
Wasn’t in the mood for the chest compression so switched to standing

Standing Db rows
80s x 12, 12, 12

Deadstop standing shoulder press - pins at nose height. My new favorite shoulder movement. No discomfort.
95 x 5
115 x 5
135 x 5
145 x 5
145 x 5
135 x 6

Band pull-aparts
Mini (red) x 100 reps

Felt good.
