Great work on those good mornings. Are you seeing a carry over to your deads or squats?

Absolutely for my squats. I feel much tighter through my low and mid back.
I haven’t done deads for a while but they are on the schedule for next ME day. We’ll see how that goes.

ok, love the warm up dancing, I think you had a belt on under that most awesome shirt, right?
GM were almost to parallel, a lot deeper than I’ve seen in the gyms. I also set the safety bar about parallel and try to touch.
Front squats, please tell me you have a mouth piece, my teeth would be rattling !!

haha…I’m the whitest “dancer” ever. I love that shirt…so comfortable and I can put a 2-board under it and just do up the snaps.
I did have a belt on. I have an umbilical hernia so if I’m doing anything heavy I wear a belt. Had the hernia all my life but should probably get it fixed before my spleen comes flying out. I’m worried about the rehab timeline though.
Actually, I DO have a mouthpiece. Forgot all about it. That’s a great idea!

Nice, heavy GMs. I’ll see what I can do with mine, tonight I hope.
Once you get past the thought that your lower back is going to shatter, going heavy is actually pretty straightforward. Maybe just work up in weight doing sets of 5? Sit back so you feel the stretch in your hams and leave 2-3 reps in the tank on your top set.

Question on GMs: do you try to keep your legs straight as you bend forward? I think I’m bending my knees too much when I do them…
Keep them bent a bit. If they are locked you won’t get much range of motion since you will get a wicked hamstring stretch. I would think there would be some knee strain from locked knees too.
The thing to avoid (which I did when I started doing them) was to squat the weight up from the bottom position. I wasn’t reaching back far enough with my butt.
You can use narrow stance, wide stance, go deep, go higher (see vid) and other variations.
git, thanks for that video. Very helpful. I thought the form on GMs would be easy…that was BEFORE I tried them. So much to learn with every one of these movements!

The sweet satisfaction of returning to a moment and setting a PR, affirming that you’ve been making progress. Congrats!
Thanks buddy. Totally agree. I really like the way Westside rotates exercises. Gives me a chance to get stronger by doing other stuff and then hit PRs when the movement comes back around. If there is no PR then something is not working and a change is required.
