West Virginia Water

I am a little curious how the free market will step in ? This could be the classic definition of (CATASTROPHE) It could have devastating effects for a LONG time

There is no free market. The real question is, how did this happen with a government presiding over everything?

This will most likely be resolved by the government being granted even more power and it then telling people they are safe.

the company sure isn’t doing anything . The fact is there was no regulation of this site , because it was not petroleum . A 50 year old facility positioned a stone’s throw from the river and no regulation .

FREEDOM INDUSTRIES

Free to fuck up your water , This guy just looks like one of those" get the Gov of my back" , frothing at the mouth Republicans

I don’t usually agree with your characterizations, except this time. He seemed to have the demeanor of not owing anybody any answers about anything. Aside from not being able to answer anything without an attorney present, he didn’t even attempt to placate due to the fact that his company screwed up half a million peoples water supply.

Guarantee you anybody in his company who even peeps about this either has been or will be fired for an entirely different reason.

Pretty much this S. When people screw up they need to own it. Both financially and personally.

probably any one of the 3 regulations I mention would have avoided the problem

1 Regular Inspection ( Have an engineer estimate reasonable life expectancy of tank)

2 regulate distance hazardous materials can be stored near water ways

3 Some type of containment that can contain the amount of at least one tank ( meaning a impermeable floor with a curb height to match the desired volume)

This is called regulation and it has it’s place in society

not even sure he had insurance .

It almost sounds like he lived in Nickyville

You would think this site would at least need some type of license like a contractor bonding and insurance and some practical knowledge on running such a facility

Obviously didn’t see the beginning but I don’t like that guys attitude from what I saw. You’re the goddamned President of a company that created a fuck up that affected the lives of thousands of people. He needs to grow up and quit being a pussy and explain his company’s actions fully to the media. I’d be embarrassed to be associated with that guy.

Freedom industries means freedom from taking responsibility for your actions apparently in this case. Be a man. Men apologize when they fuck something up. If you haven’t said I’m sorry recently then you’re not a man. Know when to apologize and when not to apologize. This is a situation where you own up to your actions. No wonder this happened with a company with this type of “leadership.”

People who like to invent places like Nickville have simply never seen the meat grinders that companies become when they are flush with money, examined by corrupt officials and therefore bereft of regulation.

Hubris begins to describe it but just barely.

I would be willing to bet he was funneling money into some politicians hands to look the other way.

I think next time a so called conservative starts to rail about regulations derailing the economy we should ask specifically which laws do you not like

How about asking which regulations helped the affected West Virginia citizens? How many more regulations are needed? When something happens after those regulations fail to achieve a state of absolute safety, how many more will be needed? When the state has total control of everything and we are less safe than we were to begin with, how will we fight back?

I’m no “conservative,” but I would like to see someone answer those questions.

Why is it not enough to make someone/a company pay for the damage he’s/it’s done not enough? Why must everyone pay for the mistakes of others?

Lol and Im not liberal but I think the idea is preventative laws. Yeah it’s great we can fine the shit out of this company…hell it’s great we can fine this company bankrupt…but that doesn’t change what happened.

They’re lucky no one died

So no one died from this, but we need preventive laws? Lots of people die from the misuse of guns, so do we need preventive gun laws? Lots of people die in car crashes despite the laws we have, so we need to make the laws stricter and/or more numerous, correct?

There were no regulations…so the idea that you go from 0 to 100 is a bit disengenous.

You need preventative laws because poisoning the fucking water is not kosher

Don’t be a dumbfuck. That should be a law.

It was lack of compliance to existing rules and regs. and enforcement on this one.

What do they call that when you put forth an argument that doesn’t exist then explain it away and claim victory?
