Good point about doing chins. In fact, chins with OHP and pull-ups with bench is great. My problem with BBB is that I don’t feel it addresses any weak points. After a cycle, I experienced shoulder and elbow pain [tendonitis?]. I attributed it to a lack of isolation exercises for shoulders and arms. I’m willing to admit that I could be way off, but I just don’t think it’s a great method for long term development. Time crunch? Sure.
But you can still run BBB and address weak points. BBB as a template is repeating the mainlift 5x10 and ANOTHER LIFT which you could use to address the weakpoint. Also I don’t see why you can’t run BBB and do 2 extra lifts if you have major weakpoints. Sure its getting away from the Wendlerian mantra of training efficiency but I don’t think Jim would disapprove.

Just from my experience I’m suggesting that you get strong at the main lift by doing the main lift or similar, a lot. The volume pays off. To get strong at squatting you squat, front, back, box, whatever. If you’re getting pain and think you need some prehab then do it, I often include little shoulder complexes at the end of my bench training for shoulder stability but I don’t even consider them part of the main training template as they’re not there to make me strong, they’re there to keep me functional.

BBB or The Triumvirate, you can’t beat 'em.
BBB < Triumvirate

Ultimately, it really doesn’t matter as long as you’re getting stronger and staying healthy. Personally, I just got really sore from BBB.

ASSISTANCE…
BBB, Triumvirate, Well I been following Jim Q/A for a few years now this thread and lots of internet board on the assistance and one of the best post about the subject came from Jim Q/A on EFS…
http://asp.elitefts.com/qa/default.asp?qid=139486&tid=

Squat
Squat more ,Leg Press or Single Leg work
Abs

Bench
Pressing Exercise
Pulling exercise

 • Traps
 • Triceps

Deadlift
Deadlift more or Single leg deadlift
Abs

Press
Pressing Exercise
Pulling exercise

 • Traps
 • Biceps

Assistance work is all 3-5 sets of 10-15 reps
If you have time do 5 sets of 10 reps , if not 3 sets, ramping up the weight or straight set…
as Jim would probably say…Make it a game decision time!!
This template is well balance with pushing and pulling, very similar to Defranco skinny bastard templste so you can’t go wrong !! At the end hard work will pay off !!

Yes lol

I’m on my fourth cycle after cruising for awhile and working out mobility kinks. Everything is progressing smoothly as I slowly add in sled/tire work after training. Ordered my Prowler today, suffice to say FUCKING EXCITED is an understatement.

So i am all registered for a meet on on may 28th, and it was fine a while ago but now the date is closing in and all my workouts are like panic attacks waiting to happen. I AM GETTING WEAKER. Everytime I go to the gym I think “OMG NO TIME LEFT, STILL TOO WEAK AHHh” then my workout sucks and i get really pissed at myself.
I was reading the federation rules and it was like a f#*king novel with all this anal detail bullshit that seems really unpleasent. “yes you can have wrist wraps but they must be XXX in lengh and be made out of this, or a combination of this and they can;t have this and BLAH BLAH” wtf, i just want to lift heavy shit. This is lame-sauce.
But I already paid and everything so if I just don’t show up how can they hate me if i decide to compete in the futre???

Don’t not show up, man. 1/9, fuck even 0/9 is better than not even showing up because you think everyone will find out what a huge embarrassing failure you are. Chill out, have fun and do exactly what you want to do: lift heavy shit.

Don’t be an idiot and you won’t have to worry about getting called on rules. Have someone who’s not a moron look them over with you, perhaps while sipping a nice brandy, and you’ll know where you stand.

Oh my, I think it would be catastrophic for everyone to find out what a huge embarrassing failure I am. That would make me cry x’s 10000000.
I know matt Kroc used to have issues with anxiety and he powered through them (because he is the man) BUT i don’t know how a regular humanoid such as myself can get over all this meet releated stressing seeing as how I am afraid of life.

 1. Deep breath, you’ll be fine.

 2. Open light so that you don’t have to worry about anything except technique and nail it.

 3. In Canada IPF is CPU where is there a CPU meet on may 28th?

IPF
oops, my bad, I guess it’s not IPF. Luc keeps calling it IPF so I called it IPF. I have no idea what federation it is, i just send them money.

ANOTHER obvious sign I have no idea what I am doing and should stay home and just do a bench workout at kinsmen,.

Is it the one in Calgary? GPC?

No, it doesn’t mean you should stay home it means you should get your ass there and lift.

but mommmmmmmmmmyyyyyyyy, I’m too scared to play with the big kids.

OK! back to 5/3/1…

anyone have any questions, things they want to discuss, etc?

Not a question but …I know Jim comming out with 5/3/1 for powerlifting soon but I’m not a powerlifter so the manual is good enough but I’m really curious about the NOV book and new conditioning idea from Jim.
I read the the simplest template article with rope jumping between sets but curious to see more idea from Jim on conditioning!
