Wendler's 5/3/1 Program - Part 4

OK question for people who have done meets or maybe even just trained with a partner (i am always a loner haha)
so when I watched dave tates so you think you can bench stuff I totally changed my benching and how I bring the bar off the pins so that my shoulders stay in the right position and my shoulder blades stay all tight or whatever BUT i have a meet in about two months and I guess some random volunteer person gives you a lift off. Well one time long ago someone was spotting me and gave me a lift off and it felt like they were dropping the weight on me and it totally threw me off and I missed a lift that I could have tyically repped a few times.
SO i am getting a little anxiety about how it’s going to be a different than what iam used to
AND YES this post might be kind of dumb but it’s my first meet and I really have no idea what the hell I am doing haha

is the lift-off at your meet MANDATORY? if not, perhaps youd be better off unracking it yourself.

Regarding assistance work, if for example I am benching, then do DB benches for assistance, how do I gauge my 50%? Gym only has 100lb DBs, and those are too heavy for 5x10.

Don’t overthink it. Take a pair of DBs that is heavy but doesn’t take you to failure if your aiming for 10 reps

If your gym ONLY HAS 100lb bells, and that’s too heavy, then it seems you won’t be doing DB bench…right?

hmm, that’s a good question. I just assumed it would be. The website for the federation has been “being repaired” for 6 months so hopefully they will update with rules and everything closer to the time of the meet.

I am worrying about being able to adjust everything properly. I am so used to the comfort of the gym equipment I always use.

Maybe you can contact the meet director and ask them, and if they don’t know for sure ask if it is possible for you to contact head judge or for them to contact head judge with your question and get back to you. Whether being a result of never having gotten a good lift off or not, I prefer to pull it out myself- i feel like moving it that extra distance gets me ready. I also workout alone, so I know if I were to have trouble unracking, I shouldn’t attempt the rep. For the record, I have yet to compete.

Does anybody ever have days where on the AMRAP set, they can only hit the prescribed reps, but no more? I had two in a row like that and it pisses me off because i know i have more in the tank, but i fatigue(and reevaluated my weekly schedule and might know why). I’ve only had this issue with squats.

Normal, you cannot get Pr all the times !! Its also in the book and most of the time if you don’t feel like going for amrap, getting the minimun reps is what really important!!

Hey guys-

As Jim mentioned above there’s some legal issues with his 5/3/1 for powerlifting, and when that’s cleared it’ll be released. As you all may know, Jim’s log on elitefts is a great source of lifting info, laughs, music etc. If I’m not mistaken, he is due in court tomorrow to straighten out whatever issues surround this new book. I don’t know the details- and as he said above, it’s personal, so let’s not ask.

I think what we can all do tomorrow is pray to whatever gods are worshiped, kick ass on the gym, drink double arrogant bastard ale till we pass out- do something that you think is awesome- and in your mind help Wendler kick some ass.

Good luck to all, good luck to Jim.

All the legal shit was supposed to happen on the 18th - left early as I had to meet with lawyers, etc. to make sure everything was set. As we were about to board the plane, I got a call from my lawyer saying it had been cancelled due to the other party being a cunt. This, I believe, is a technical term that I have only heard muttered in court rooms and TV dramas.

Anyway, everything was rescheduled again (the third time) for April. I appreciate the support from all you fuckers out there. Also, new website is almost done - and when the dust fucking clears and I come out on top (again) there will be some new books, t-shirts, hats, give aways, etc.

Thanks for all the info Jim !!

Does anyone use Option 2 of 5/3/1? I’ve been using Option 2 since January along with BBB.

It’s possible.

I remember switching 5/3/1 squats + BBB squats, to 5/3/1 squats + BBB deadlifts (5/3/1 deads + BBB squat) has been brought up here before, what did the outline look like for that? I’ve looked through the thread and can’t find it.

Do you prefer leg curls to stiff leg deadlifts?
