Weird Feeling in Chest During Strict Diets

good day,

I’m 32 , in good physique,i do not smoke, drink, or even drink coffee, i sleep at 8:30 pm wake up at 4:30 am for my morning run,and weight lifting. been going like that since i was 18.i train on daily bases. recently decided to go on a diet to shed those few pounds am ~14% bf want to go sub 9% , so decided to start on a low carb diet . but here’s the problem , every time i start dieting ,2nd week to 3rd week into my dieting i start getting this weird feeling in my chest and heart it is same feeling when you get scared i also feel light headed. , at first i suspected it is my blood pressure, checked it , its 110/60, which has been the way it is for the last 10 years.

i dont know what to do, because of this i cant run on a proper diet . any idea’s why is this happening. should i consult a professional doctor on this issue?

Thanks

It sounds like you’re having episodes of hypoglycemia.

And yes, you should consult a physician and have it checked out.

understood and thanks for your feedback good sir

I was going to suggest you were in love, but EyeDentist is probably more knowledgeable in these matters than I am…Probably.

Perhaps, but my backyard grill situation pales in comparison to yours.

How low of carbs? Do you ever carb back load or have a cheat meal?

i usually run on 80 grams carbs on non training days and 120 on training days , and have a cheat meal once every 12 days.

you wakeup EVERY morning for a morning run AND weightlifting?
You didnt post your calorie intake, but I feel like you are underestimating your carb and overall calorie need.

Some guys cannot go to such low fat. We have some end up on the T-replacement forum with crashed hormones.

Damn Ksman didn’t know you looked in this section.

How you been?

Hey KSman, I went to the T-replacement forum, but i can’t make out what it’s about. theres no cliff post. Is it something related to our physiology that won’t let us lose weight?

Thanks for the headsup

Edit: Never mind, just saw your thyroid basics sticky

Lightheadedness on a low carb diet can be caused by lack of sodium.

“All carbohydrate resticted diets are natriutretic - they make kidneys dump sodium…With severe sodium restriction (like 1.3 grams a day combined with the natriuretic effects of carbohydrate restriction) the body responds first by mobilizing any excess extracellular flid and then by contracting its circulating volume. It is this contracted circulating volume that causes dizziness, headache, and ease of fatigue.”

“At some point when confronted with this low sodium intake plus carb restriction, most people’s defense mechanisms can’t maintain normal mineral balances…so kidney cells excrete potassium in order to conserve sodium. However, unless there is copious Potassium coming in from the diet, this excess urinary porassium comes from teh body’s potassim pool inside cells. Two things then happen. First, nerve and muscle cells don’t work well, leading to cardiac dysrhythmisas and muscle cramps. Second, because potassium is an obligate component of lean tissue, the body starts losing muscle even if there’s plenty of protein in the diet”

Personally, I’ve been eating a high fat diet for 15 months (less than 60 cals of carbs per day) and when I find myself dragging ass or lightheaded, I heat up a mug of chicken broth in the microwave. For me, it never fails to revive me. Because on a high fat diet you’re not eating processed foods, you need to be much more conscious about your salt intake. I shoot for 5 grams per day. Keep in mind that 5 grams of salt is only 2 grams of sodium.

Man this is some awesome information. thanks alot for the heads up.

Edit: one more question if you don’t mind, Is it recommended to have one electrolytes sachet every day when running on a low carb diet?

Thanks

I’m not aware of what an electrolyte sachet is, or what it contains, but if it allows you to reach the recommended 5 grams of salt a day, then I would imagine it would be beneficial.
