Weightlifting Can Cause Sudden Death

What do you guys think of this? Is it worth getting a heart ultrasound to check for aorta enlargement? I’m young and my blood pressure is a tad high (140/85) for some reason, which would put me at increased risk for something like this, especially if I were maxing out on deads or something I guess?

I know the amount of pressure needed to rupture the vessel is very high, but how high exactly I don’t know, and how high does blood pressure increase while lifting, especially weights greater than 2x bw?

wait, what?

“For heavy strength training involving weight lifting or similar activities like pushups, we’re recommending screening for unknown or undetected aortic aneurysm.”

Heavy strength training = pushups???

“Aortic aneurysms are caused by damage to the artery’s wall due to atherosclerosis, commonly known as hardening of the arteries. Atherosclerosis is caused by a buildup of cholesterol and other fatty deposits in the arteries and by hypertension.”

I don’t think you have too much to worry about. But if you’re freaked out, by all means, shell out a bunch of money to find out that your aorta is normal.

Canada has free healthcare, so it wouldn’t cost me money.

You don’t need an ultrasound until you talk to a doctor and figure out whats causing your high blood pressure.

Taking a crap can result in aneurysms, fatal hemorrhages, and other nefarious maladies. I have been holding it in for a while but don’t think I can last much longer…

LMFAO.

Well he said it… taking a shit is just about as dangerous as lifting.

DOn’t worry about it. If your eating decently clean, and your family history of heart disease isn’t absolutly terrible (IE: If your twin brother just had quadruple bipass, you may wanna get checked) then your fine.
