Weight Loss Supplement Advice

I have been using ephedra products and whey protein but that is the extent of supplements I have used. I have ordered some Carbolin 19 but have not started using it yet as I was told since I am trying to drop body fat, that I would be better off with the Maximum Strength HOT-ROX first.

So, on to my question. I have read about Spike, Surge and other stuff on this site and was wondering what should I order and take that will help me the most at losing weight and maintaining or increasing the muscle mass that I have gained in the past year?

A little about me, I am 38 and about 278lbs with roughly 21-22% BF. Last year when I started lifting (May 2004) I was 310 lbs and over 33% BF. A friend of mine gave me some Xenadrine that he had stocked up. I used that and got what I felt to be good results, when that ended I tried the ephedra free version but with no results, so I only used whey protein and a concoction of Primetine Pills and Sudafed for the pick me up energy boost I was getting from the ephedra products.

I am still what I believe to be a newbie to all this supplement stuff and was wondering if some of you kind folks could point me in the right direction of what to use and when to use it.

Look at taking/drinking green tea. Has fat loss capabilities, and the caffeine effect will power you through some workouts allowing you to maintain muscle mass.

Maybe adjusting your workouts–ie heavier weights, total body, more volume, whatever can also lead to a new spike in fat loss and retain most or even gain some muscle.

Supps are great, but unless your diet and shit is in order, you won’t see any benefit. The biggest tweak you can make is to you nutrition. Read the
“Top 30 T-Nation Diets” currently in articles section. Find one that fits you and your goals and go to it.

I think this is the best way to go. Especially to a self-described newbie-

Thanks sasquatch, I feel as if my diet is pretty much in order, for the past year, I have been eating roughly 6 meals a day. I have cut out all sodas, both regular and diet and have had some pretty good results. I was just thinking after reading about some of the products on this site, that maybe I could get some benefit from some of the items.

I have dropped 42 lbs in the past year and about 12% BF so I think (but I am far from sure) that my eating is ok, maybe if anything I am not eating the proper items at the proper times, but I cant seem to figure the amounts of protein, carbs and fat in meals that are made for the family and for just the serving I eat. But with the results I have gotten so far, I would think that part is doing fairly well. Maybe I am just trying to speed things up too much and should just let things happen natures way. Anyway, thanks for the reply.

It really depends on your budget. When I taper for races it is only 4-5 lbs but I use Maximum Strength HOT-ROX, Power Drive, Surge, and Low-Carb Grow!. I have also done the Velocity Diet (Check Chris Shugart’s Blog).

You best bet is to put an order in for your supplements and use that as a seal of dedication. In those 3 days it will take to get your supplements it is your duty to read up. No matter how good your diet is… you always can improve.

With weightloss as a priority, I would go in this order of importance.

Maximum Strength HOT-ROX
Surge
Low-Carb Grow!
Power Drive

I prefer Power Drive with my Surge during tapering. This is because it helps me get out of the low-calorie fog.

After you diet down I would then start Carbolin 19. Save it for its best use.

This helps alot, thanks. I am saving the Carbolin 19 till later, I was thinking like till I get down to around 15% BF or so. I was thinking maybe getting some Alpha Male and using it as directed along with HOT-ROX during workout days and using Spike on non workout days. But I will definately read more on the Surge and Low-Carb Grow!. Thanks for the advice.
