I have a weigh in for a fight coming up and I need to drop as much weight as possible before then. Considering creating makes you retain water, if I stop using it can I expect to lose some weight? And if so, any thoughts on how long it will take to get the creatine related water out of my body?
Yes, you’ll likely drop anywhere from 2 to 8 pounds over the course of 5 to 7 days.
it’s really down to your own individual reaction, i also have a fight this saturday and just to be sure i stopped taking creatine last saturday just to be safe, i tend to carry a good 4 or 5 pounds extra when taking it.
my advice would be to leave at least a week that way you’ll be safe.
Depends on how much creatine you take and how often. I carry very little water weight from creatine, 5g post workout.
I also carry very little water weight from creatine. When going off it, I barely notice a change on the scale or appearance.
Thanks for the responses. I hope I am carrying closer to 8 lbs or I’m gonna be in trouble.
on a related note.
im planning on dosing 4 x 5g creatine daily during my next fat strip phase.
Should i expect similar extra ‘weight’ due to the creatine? if I hadnt stumbled across this thread i might have been in for a shock as I dont usually take creatine and my weight would go up during my cut!

You should search this site and read about creatine. Taking in 20g a day is going to cause you to bloat up bad, be pissing out a lot of creatine, and be a waste of perfectly good creatine. Most of the research points to a grown male being able to use about 3-5g of creatine a day, and alot of that leaves in the urine anyway.

Who cares? It’s not fat weight. It’s water weight. And once you reach your saturation point, it won’t continue to increase. Your hydration level will be constant. Whether it’s beneficial to dose like that is a separate matter. Those I respect do employ a similar protocol, particular on strict fat loss diets. John Berardi did it for Get Shredded. I forget the exact rationale, but I followed it with no complaints.
I also retain very little, if any, water on 5g of creatine a day PWO.
Is the water retained in the muscles or under the skin?
Do bodybuilders usually drop it in the week efore their contest to get rid of any water under their skin or does that leave them flatter than normal?
Bodybuilders use drugs and/or herbal duiretics to get rid of subcutaneous water (under skin). Dropping creatine alone won’t do that.
I know, but I was mainly asking if creatine makes you hold water under your skin, or if that water weight is kept in the muscles.
Would dropping creatine on top of their other contest prep leave them drier than if they had continued using it?
