Some of my weight lifting buddies have told me about a new line of shoes by Under Armour designed for strength training, etc. I was wondering if anybody has heard of these or actually seen them. The under armour website doesn’t show any pictures of the actual shoe, just the soles. Here’s the link if anyone’s interested…
Two words: Chuck Taylors.
You wear chucks at the gym?
As a general rule I try to avoid any and all Under-Armor products.
It looks from the sole of the shoe that this Under-Armor Shoe is going to be a copycat of the Nike Free Line of Shoes.
I have tried lifting in Chuck Taylor High Tops. They’re much better than running shoes or cross trainers.
I currently lift with Nike Free 7s. I like them a bit more and they aren’t as stiff.
They’re kind of like wrestling shoes except you don’t look quite as silly wearing them.
To my knowledge, if you’re serious about weightlifting the best shoes to get are Adidas IronMind Weightlifting Shoes or Metal Brand Squat Shoes. I’ve never tried these because I’m not strong enough to justify their purchase.
I am reasonably sure that Under-Armor does not know jack shit about weightlifting.
Chuck Taylor’s or Addias Sambas (much better IMO) for deadlifting/general gym use, and I have a pair of Do-Win’s for squatting/oly lifting.
These are what I wear and they are awesome.
Had to get a new pair of Chuck’s this year. The first pair eventually wore out. Hell, they’re relatively cheap and are even coming back in style. They never leave my gym bag. They’re very helpful (to me) in deadlifting and squats. They’re not the greatest for cardio. I have running shoes for open road running.
Not to hijack but, does anybody else deadlift in an old pair of sweats as to not leave any skin/blood on the knurling?
Chuck Taylors, I wear these when i do leg work.

The shoes look like they’re for cross-training or practice.
I think its strange that they aren’t going to show them off until they’re released in May. I’m always open to trying new things so I guess I’ll wait and see how they look, how they feel, and the price. Probably just another gimmick, but I do need some new lifting shoes.
I train barefoot, unless it is really cold or wet out, then I wear my Chuck Taylors.

I use do wins since I do oly lifts and deep squatting and they are amazing I have really great balance and can go much lower easier. Also the wood sole really helps in squatting, I just use some plain converse for deadlifts.-Though admittedly I haven’t been doing them very recently while doing this oly lift program-
If you want to do deep squating and eventually want to get into more oly lifts it really helps to have a pair of oly shoes if you have some extra money.
