Weekly 36 hour fast

Has anyone tried a weekly 36 hour fast? I am considering it for long term health goals and better relationship with food.

About me. Very active and fit. 6’ 185lbs. Lift weights 2-3 times per week, bjj 4-6 times, yoga and mobility training multiple times a week. I often compete and have to lose 5-10 lbs for bjj competitions. I do this by traffic my macros and very familiar with the process. I am often still very hungry when eating 2,800 calories a day. Thinking it might be more enjoyable to eat slightly more daily and add in a 36
Hour fast 2-4 times a month. I realize the fasting will affect athletic performance and recovery. I’d likely only do the fast on rest days.

I’m interested to see if a few months of trying this can help me mental resilience with food and cravings. Also would like to maintain a weight of around 180 without feeling like I’m chronically in a daily deficit. Thank you!

Ever consider a protein sparing modified fast instead?

similar.

I did rolling 48’s.

Fast for 48 hours. Eat normally for 48 hours. rinse repeat.

I was not fit like you. I also wasn’t as active as you are.

Now I prefer PSMF as T3 suggested.

4 weeks on 1 week off.

protocol calls for carb refeed every 100 hours/4 days. carb cycling to keep your thyroid going strong and glycogen full so it maximizes fat loss minimizes muscle loss.

With those stats (has said he is 10% BF) and training schedule I do not think 36-hour fasts is a smart move. Even PSMF may be pushing it.

I do not think it is cravings that are the issue he may actually need the fuel. I weigh 15 lbs. less, train much less and eat more.

How did you feel both towards the end of the fast and early in the eating window? Were the transitions rough?

I am not familiar with psmf but that is something I can look into more. I do worry about performance issues with fasting and my high activity level. I think id just enjoy the ability to eat more 6 days a week and one day of hunger instead of chronic deficit.

before that I had already been doing OMAD for months. getting home and skipping dinner wasn’t a big deal.

I prefer it. I can be food-focused. it eliminated that for me. I would drink lots of water and stay busy.

I was also making incredible visual progress, the momentum made it worth it. I lost 150lbs in 13 months.
