ok, stupid question, im pretty sure i know the answere to this question already, but i need reasurance. just kind of a mental thing i guess. i live in the northeast and love love love the winter, i can go around in a t shirt and shorts i love the cold so much, but does this have any harmfull effecs on muscle mass? becuase when i go outside w/o a coat on i start to kind of shrivle up, im pretty sure its just lack of blood flow and your bodies natural response to keep your inards warm in exchange for cold extremities. just curious if im stunting my growth in anyway.
damn im probly gonna get hell for this question. ahah oh well. XD
DylanJ, this is far from a stupid question. One can safely assume that, in order to maintain the body’s internal temperature, you are burning more calories that may come from muscle. So, you may be hindering your progress this way. But I’m no expert…
When your body is exposed to colder temperatures, it draws blood inward to keep the organs warm. I would think that anything that takes blood away from the muscle is going to hinder muscle recovery/growth (not including alternating hot and cold water immersion).
You can still love the winter and cold weather, but put on a coat if you’re going to be outside for anything other than a quick streak around the frat house.
That said, we used to go out drinking in college and leave the coats in the dorm because they always got lost/stolen in the bars. It was cold on the way, but not on the way home (beer coat). In the dead of winter we had to wear coats though, because 30 below is just too cold.
The cold itself, yeah probably. But the worst part is when you become frozen solid and some joker comes up and cracks you into a bazillion pieces with a hammer or a falling piano. Which is why I see fit to carry an umbrella, just in case.

lmao.
TC - I’d try to stay a little warmer. You don’t want to tweak something accidently either. If you got tripped up or something, I’m sure cold ankle tendons would get messed up before warmer ones would, ya know? Does that make sense?
I love the cold too, but I always assumed it wasn’t good for my body.
BTW I live in Westchester during the summers - what part of NY are you in?

Sound like where I went. -30 is damn cold. I don’t miss it.

I think we’ve probably discussed this before. I went to Syracuse.
I know in cold weather your body will use more calories trying to maintain normal body temperature. But what about hot weather, such as 110 degrees or so? I do not think either will make much of an impact on your goals. But if you believe every little bit helps then try to wear clothes that assist your body with maintaining normal temperature.
