We Can Rebuild It: How Would You Revamp T-Nation?

Agreed on the Spills. It’s just about the only part of the site I don’t visit.

Bring back “Atomic Dog!”

Precisely. It is THE most worthless part of the whole site. I have no clue why it’s here.
Amen.

I am very agree!

LOL at the OP not knowing what an OP is, claiming “I just wanna make this site better!”

Fuuuuck that. Embedded undercover analyst. Motherfucker Do You Even Lift? If you’re looking for legit info from it’s members then why the fuck dont’ you come correct and lay out what’s really going on? Be honest with this thread to get honest responses other than a shit-ton of bitching?

PM a survey to level 4 members or something.

Otherwise Nards and IH are going to splatter kitty pics all over your thread like a hippo on the savannah, and it’ll be expected. The only “lesson learned” from the “informal conversation forum post survey” in your info-data gathering phase is that you’re in over your head.

I pretty much stick to the powerlifting area and the O35 area as they seem to not have the same level of BS that goes on in the other areas so my opinion is pretty limited in scope. But I think that the question of how to make the site better depends on what you want to use the site for.

There’s a lot of people who just want to goof off and so the site is going to take on a different feel than for those of us who do that less. You could really ask this question in the seperate sub-forums to get a better answer. For example, I see names in the powerlifting area that never come down to GAL. And I see names in GAL that don’t post in other areas so perhaps the audience is a bit different.

I don’t find the livespills as frustrating as some of you do. You need to filter through the crap to find the actual Q & A part sometimes but that’s no different than the rest of the forum. It is really hard to read those on my phone though so they are useless for that.

A spill from CT here n there that is visible to all wouldn’t hurt though.
I used to love the spills from CT. Especially the “My Training This Week”. I would love it if he had a log somewhere that didn’t get bombarded with hundreds of comments. It’s not because I want to know what he’s doing or if there are any secrets to learn. I’m just nerdy and would like to follow his day to day sessions lol.
Don’t you get spills on rings and stuff now? At least?

I’m ok with not following what’s going on at the front page anymore apart from checking his comments sometimes, but I did learn a lot on many subjects from him in the past. His fascination is always jumping from one method to the next yet he makes sense on (almost) anything he writes about.

bb.com is ranked #386. we must be doing something wrong.

Aye…certainly the quality of articles from T-Nation blows BB.com out of the water…

Are you concerned about something? More popularity and sensationalism usually brings down any remaining quality.

Wouldn’t mind harder moderation to keep discussions civil and on topic.
You can’t expect the mods to keep every conversation and discussion civil on the site. It’s not their job to babysit. There is so much action it is just not possible. And I for one enjoy the occasional meme that pokes fun at a newb poster or something similar. How would the mods decide if something is worth deleting or not? There is a difference between completely trolling and derailing a thread, and dropping a harmless meme for the lulz.
Not quite what I meant. When a thread starts really going out of control, pop in and say “keep it on topic and stop insulting each other or I’m locking the thread”. I’ve seen it work remarkably well on some other forums. Couldn’t believe the positive atmosphere at first. People apologizing for misunderstandings. Imagine that.

We have some very entertaining derailed threads. The pursuit of trappyness comes to mind. And some trainwrecks. FB BOI vs Professor X and friends volumes 1-36 come to mind. Anyone can tell the difference by if the thread made them laugh or just shake their head and look at what this site has become.

Yep. If you look at some of the threads from the early 2000s, there wouldn’t be any chance of meme-bombing and the mindless bullshit that goes on around here. But there was also a lot less traffic.

Isn’t that what happened to this board? Or did we just run out of good topics to discuss while scaring off some big posters?

Not trying to sound butthurt or like that’s wrong (it’s not), because Indigo-3G is very expensive and involved and the people that use it need the support for it, but the livespills (and therefore most of T-Nation) are Indigo. CT, Shugart, and the rest of the gang don’t talk about anything relevant to me now.

This x1000. It feels especially, saddening?(that seems like a much too dramatic word to use but whatever) that a lot of the cool bonus stuff being thrown around has become extremely exclusive as well. It really has made me not care to participate in some of the hype for Biotest stuff because I didn’t purchase I3G(and won’t be able to for the foreseeable future) so it feels like I’m essentially excluded from selection for future events.

I actually tried to get in on the i3g launch(before knowing price, I may have had to say no had I actually gotten the call) but apparently not being one of the people who sat in livespills all day makes me a not active member of the community or a non-supporter of Biotest, and it feels like it’s only getting worse. It really has begun to feel like there is a ‘forum community’ and an ‘indigo livespill community.’ Very segregated.

Okay, the first part of the question is closed…

Let’s move on the second part:

What is it that T-Nation doesn’t do well?

Here is what I collected thus far for the second question:

  1. I wish when we linked a picture it could go UNDER the text if we like and not always at the top. Some attempts at witty photographic retorts don’t work out well with the pic coming first.
  2. More cat/dog pics
  3. Re: Livespill - I can’t think of a better way to take useful conversation/information and make it completely unavailable to anyone not directly following the spill or trying to reference it later.
**1) Precisely. It is THE most worthless part of the whole site. I have no clue why it’s here.
  4. One thing that has never worked well for me on this site is the emailing about a thread being updated. If a bunch of people have posted in it, it’ll email me, and then when I go to the thread, it’ll email me again, whether or not anyone has posted since. The cycle continues, so I basically have to stop paying attention to the emails, because it just emails me right after I check the thread.
  5. Re: Livespill - That is absolutely the worst thing they have ever done to this site. It is the one and only thing I truly dislike. Although I post ever so often in the Livespill after an article, I do not follow it as it’s impossibly annoying.
  6. Re: Livespill: In a regular thread, like it used to be, everything is pieced out and easy to identify/read. It’s easier to sit through the bullshit. The livespills are too homogenized and it’s hard to tell who is actually worth paying attention to at first glance. Then, if you do see something, there’s no connection between posts.
  7. White background… black is so 2002 in web design.
  8. Removing the mandatory Biotest plug in every.damn.article.
  9. Re: Livespill - I think it would work 9000x better if it was like Facebook. There was a “wall” where you could post a question, then the author would reply to it and it would all be in one single space, not twelve answers away from the original question.
  10. Re: Livespill - Unless you are following it live (duh!) you cannot later go back and read/learn. Those who work and CANNOT mess around on the computer all day cannot go back at night and learn something from the spill. Not without wasting a tremendous amount of time.
  11. Re: Livespill - I wish the site were more like Facebook in that you could just reply to a comment and have easier access to it.
  12. The forums are about as clogged as the spills are. Yeah, there is a lot of excess and unnecessary chatting in the spill, but it’s the exact same in the forums. Threads are constantly derailed, and good topics are wasted in the most ridiculous and childish internet arguments by people who seem to never get along. This is why I usually post in the BOI, my training log, a few other training logs, and not much else.
  13. Also, before, anyone could ask the brass about stuff. Now you get the feeling that if you aren’t using Indigo-3G, you don’t matter. To more of an extent than ANACONDA or I,BODYBUILDER, anyway. Not trying to sound butthurt or like that’s wrong (it’s not), because Indigo-3G is very expensive and involved and the people that use it need the support for it, but the livespills (and therefore most of T-Nation) are Indigo. 14. Although the article forum was always of higher quality then the rest of the forums IMO. Also, the article forums could be moderated a bit more than the rest of the forums (however, I wouldn’t be against more moderation of the rest of the forums.)
  15. A spill from CT here n there that is visible to all wouldn’t hurt though.
  16. Android/iPhone app
  17. I’d like to have the ability to post multiple pics in a single post… with the ability to have text in between 'em!
  19. The spills now seem to be more of an online chat room than anything. I do enjoy posting in there but I honestly only try to when I think I have something useful to say or to report a successful training session. Now it’s gotten to the point where people post youtube videos for a good lol that are completely irrelevant and inconvenient to anything in there.
  20. When he did the “Thibs training questions” threads I could just scroll through until I saw his name and read a great response to a VISIBLE question. In the forums, avatars instantly let me see posts made by prominent or big posters. I can quickly pick out the posts that I can learn a lot from. That’s very hard in the spills.
  21. Bring back “Atomic Dog!”
  22. Re: LiveSpill: . It is THE most worthless part of the whole site. I have no clue why it’s here.
  23. Re: Moderators - When a thread starts really going out of control, [a mod could] pop in and say “keep it on topic and stop insulting each other or I’m locking the thread”. My two cents.

The ability to choose your forum format to suit your needs. Some forums allow the end users to chose their own colors, fonts, and themes. I would like to see that here.

Also, bring on the smilies! For some reason, the forum is missing them.

What about you?

What does T-Nation don’t do well?

“What does T-Nation don’t do well?”

I am still waiting on my canned Ham.

I think the Count Chocula is still waiting on his also.
