Waterbury Wednesday

Any questions? Fire away!

Chad, I have a PWO nutrition problem. I usually have a Surge-lke shake (whey, gatorade, banana, oats, or honey, but only one of the three, and bcaa’s) immediately after my workout, and a similar one 1/2 an hour afterwards, then having a P+C meal 45 minutes afterwards. The problem is that I ran out of gatorade and I can’t buy it for a little while. Is there anything that I can use as a substitute until then (and please don’t say Surge, I’m ordering next week)?

Hey Chad, I did 10x3 on cleans, benches, and chins last Friday, ouch ouch ouch ouch

BUT today I had some unreal cleans out of nowhere. Makes me wonder if there’s some sort of delayed post-tetanic phenomenon going on there? Or maybe it’s just the Spike. Hmm…

Evenin’ Chad. Could you perhaps chime in on a few “?”'s on the Set/Rep Bible article thread?

thanks,
DH

Chad I will aks this question here again but I did in your latest article. I am designing a program that is strictly Lower Body and Upper body for four day a week MT TF. In terms of your rep and set scheme, How many execises should I employ in each workout. Thanks

Wouldn’t that be like a baseball player in the batters box swinging before going on deck? My thoughts was that the study analyzed this with a 3-10 minute carryover though, which is UNLIKE what players actually do

That’s some serious volume, CS. Do you often employ such?

Powerade or a maltodextrin powder (Twinlab’s Ultra Fuel) will do the trick. The latter example is more effective.

CW, I have been doing a bill starr 5x5 type routine for the last 8 weeks. Which of your programs would you reccomend after coming off something like this or does it not really matter? I am wondering if a specific rep-range would benefit me at this time.

Ouch is right!

I’m tellin’ ya, 10x3 is an awesome set of parameters if the load is correct. Even though Spike is highly effective, I’d say you also received some obvious neural enhancement from the single workout. You can’t beat that!

Good work, my friend!

Yep, I addressed them.

I only lift 3x/k presently, so my volumes are high, workouts lasting 2 hrs usually.

I doesn’t really matter as long as you stay within the parameters. For instance, you might choose to use 2 exercises, 5x3 each, to fulfill a 10x3 (30) set/rep volume requirement. As long as the session is <50 minutes, you’ll be fine.

WHAT??!! You’ve got some 'splaining to do, Charles. You are violating sacred dogma with a 2 hour 1980’s workout. What gives?

Thanks for your answer, Chad. but i’m those people who do very well with bodypart splits, and your recommend rep range for fat loss is 24-36reps, session per week is 2-3, why can’t i do 36 x 3 in one workout? that’s the maximum total volume you recommend per week…

No, I mean I can’t buy anything right now. Otherwise I’d just run out and get a regular gatorade/powerade. I’m staying at home for a while and I’m on a tight budget. I was thinking more along the lines of regular foods lying around the house. Or would I be better off waiting 2 days to lift (tommorow’s soccer practice) if my pwo nutrition isn’t going to be up to par…

Hey man, YOU try 10x3 for cleans, benches and chins, plus ab work, in 60 minutes!

Seriously though, I’m a bit on the lazy side and for me, more work is usually more productive than less work.

Sweet potatoes or oatmeal.

Ok, thanks Chad.
