Waterbury Imposter: Don't Be Fooled!

Hey Team

I have it on good authority that Waterbury is has been called in to Santa Barbara as a last minute witness in the Michael Jackson trial!

Now here’s the deal: through the miracle of internet technology, Chad will “appear” to be answering your questions, but it’s actually his autistic assistant “Bob.”

Now it’s not Chad’s fault that he couldn’t be here of course, but you’ll be a LOT better off hanging out at my thread tonight ? I’ll be available from 4-6pm pacific time, with one eye on CNN just in case Chad shows up on TV…

Coach Staley-

  1. How often would you recommend Tabata’s for fat loss? Once a week? Twice?

  2. What’s the most you’ve ever overhead squatted?

  3. What’s the heaviest dumbell you ever cleaned and pressed or could?

  4. Would you consider sprinting up a hill (40 yards up walk down, 40 yards up walk down, etc) a fat burning mechanism or only improving your sprint times?

  5. What do you think about “imperfect” training where you do say overhead squats blindfolded or sprint on sand or have somebody nudge you slightly when squatting?

CS: This question is too general to provide a specific answer to. Depends on age, objectives, gender, injury status, other training requirements, nutritional habits, etc., etc

  1. What’s the most you’ve ever overhead squatted?

CS: 170. Don’t do these much due to injuries however

CS: Don’t know

CS: Fat Burning

CS: It can have a place in rehab situations, but otheriwse, probably not a great idea

Anyone seen my new reality show “Hell’s Gym” yet? It’s quite entertaining…

Wow! That was quick! Thanks.

  1. You feel that the olympic lifts are pretty much some of, if not the best exercises to do as an athlete for all around everything correct?

  2. What are your current goals/areas of interests?

  3. Briefly why are you not a big fan of yoga for static strength, range of motion, etc?

  4. What accomplishments are you most proud of in athletics/working out?

When is it on? What channel?

Coach Staley,

I don’t have any questions for you at the moment, but I just wanted to thank you for the great EDT programs. I’ve used EDT Arms, and fatloss, both with great success. Keep em comming!

Just kidding, sorry

CS: YES. Other favs: car pushing, hill sprints, and tire flips

  1. What are your current goals/areas of interests?

CS: Being the best dad I can be to my daughter Ashleigh.

  1. Briefly why are you not a big fan of yoga for static strength, range of motion, etc?

CS: I’ve just never been a fan for the most part, based on lack of results I’ve seen. Most current studies suggest that static stretching impairs strength and other performance indices.

  1. What accomplishments are you most proud of in athletics/working out?[/quote]

CS: Hmm, not much I’m afraid. I had some good moments as a fighter, and also threw the discus 139ft-10inches at age 33 with only 6 months of training (self coached)

Hey thanks, and I am in fact cooking up some good stuff for your guys as we speak…

What is the best way to get started in EDT, if you are just getting into working out? The DVD? The Distance Coaching, and if so, which level? Should I start with some general conditioning for a few weeks before starting EDT?

Coach, how often do you recommend dwelling into the one rep max or two rep max territory, meaning over 90% intesnity ranges? I see Chad Waterbury recommending multiple sets of 3 or even ones but he keeps his load selection under 90%. I basically dont understand when you and Chad think, if you think at all about it, that someone should try an all out one rep max?

Amir

Coach, I have a client who has been complaining about a neck cramp for a week. She blame it on the side raises we did (5 pbs/12 reps/2 sets).Knowing that the trap is a synergist for the delt is there any advice/tips/hints you can offer me on dealing with this issue. Anything to explain to her? thank you

Just wondering if you have any suggestions for a short program like a month or less that would cut my bodyfat heavily, but also maintain muscle or even gain more muscle. I have been training for 2 years, and I will give you my stats, unfortunately I dont have access to my bf % but I would assume around 14%, lets just say I can see abs decently well.

Right now my goal is to get as shredded as possible, without losing too much weight, I am tall so I do not want to be skinny and cut!

I am 6’6 weigh 260 lbs, currently train 2-3 times a week, usually doing compound exercises squats, leg press, bench press. I am just wondering what kind of training or what supplements you would suggest for me. In terms of nutrition I am very health conscious, I have 1 cheat day a week, and the rest of the week I eat extremely clean, high fibre, I get in my good fats via olive oil, and flax seeds. I want to be beach ready! Any suggestions would be great. Thanks! Greatly appreciated!

Well formyself, I pretty much attempt new maxes on a weekly basis. To clarify, I do “sets and reps” work twice a week, and add in some max attempts on day 3. Keep in mind however, these are TRAINING maxes, which means that they don’t involve tons of psyching up. And I’ll only attempt maxes on lifts that I think I have a good shot at beating my PR with. My technique is very stable, so the only caution in my case is psychic stress, not so much physical. So when I training partners and I are attempting maxes, it’s in a fun environment, not super hard-core.

Now with that said, virtually EVERYTHING I do is above 80% and about half of all reps are 90% or more. In terms of maximal motor unit recruitment is concerned, less than 80% should be used sparingly for advanced trainees.

I think the DVD is the best place to start, no need to “prep” for EDT either. The DVD will answer all your questions and give you a clear idea of what the PR Zones really look like. Hope that helps…

Charles,

I consider your writing to be some of the most interesting and influential I’ve read. I particularly like your interest in self improvement (for lack of a better term). You seem to focus on “the big picture”.

What life lesson(s) have been most influential to you in your development as a strength coach and businessman?

Ice massage can help with this, but so will the passage of time. Then monitor the situation to see if it’s an isolated incident or a recurring theme.

A true cramp doesn’t last a week though now that I’m reviewing your post…she might want to check with her doc to rule out anything serious. Neck pain can sometimes indicate an oncoming coronary event, so don’t take it lightly.

Spike is excellent for mentally gearing up for workouts.

The faster you drop weight, the more of that weight will be muscle, so you’re trying to burn the candle at both ends I’m afraid

That said, try 2-a-days. Just add 3-4 brief workouts per week, consiting of thing like shiort sprints, sled dragging, car pushing, etc. We’re only talking like 20 minute workouts here. Do them at night when you’d ordinarily be on the couch watching the tube, with one eye on the fridge.

The workouts will not only boost metabolism, they’ll also blunt your nightime desire to snack.

Let me know how this works for you.

My money would be on a strained levator scap.
