Warp Speed

This is so cool I almost creamed myself.

Sorry, it’s really nothing more than speculation.

Although the technology to create the spacecraft or the warp drive doesn’t yet exist, the artistic renderings Rademaker created could potentially be a model of what’s to come

According to NASA, there hasn’t been any proof that a warp drive can exist, but the agency is experimenting nonetheless.

It’s really just more worm hole theories and a drawing of what a ship that could travel through a worm hole would look like.

Pretty cool to think and fantasize about, but we’ve got a long ways to go before this can be considered anything close to viable.

Jesus Christ. NASA is commissioning fucking artwork now? No wonder the shuttle program is dead and space travel is essentially a private enterprise now. More government largesse at work.

Its a start. Getting off this rock is the only way for our species to survive long term. And look in your pockets. Your tricorder/communicator combo pack–i mean your iphone–was just a pipe dream and a drawing on a piece of paper just a few years ago.

Small thinking haters aren’t going to get us off this rock; big thinkers and some initial artwork is where its at.

I looked in my pocket for my iPhone, then I realized that I don’t own a smartphone of any type because I don’t need a phone for anything other than for phonecalls and the occasional text.

We’re never going to get off this rock and you know it. Why would you want to leave? Climate change and all that nonsense is just a bunch of bullshit! If we continue on at our present rate, we’ll be just fine, and Jesus will take care of the rest!

One other thing. I guess you never read the Steve Jobs, RIP thread. I definitely don’t think that the iPhone is necessarily a meaningful technological advancement at all. In fact, I’d argue that it’s at least partially responsible for a serious degradation in humanity. The iPhone COULD be an incredible tool, but what do people use it for more often than anything else, other than calls? They take the thing, they point it out at the world in front of them, then they turn it around 180 degrees, take a picture of themselves and post the fucking thing on Instagram. Is there anything more responsible for the massive culture of narcissism that this country suffers from?

We DO have an avatar bet for the first game of the year, right? Niners in Dallas on Opening Day. It’s going to be a real shit show for your 'Girls. This will be the game that Dallas fans point to when they start to wonder when Romo took that 90 degree turn straight into irrelevancy.

The Niners are going to play like their hair is on fire, mostly because they’ll have a phalanx of bloodthirsty lawyers (is there any other kind?) prowling the sidelines waving deals from the Santa Clara County DA’s office as extra motivation.

“Just tear Romo’s head off, just a little, and I MIGHT have some good news from the DA. But he’s a big Niners fan, so you have to EARN this deal!”

It’s a little bit more than that. I was speaking to one of the string theory guys in my department about this and he was saying it’s reliant on some ideas about strong theory and quantum gravity which have yet to be fully understood.

It’s not wormhole theory, it’s basically just manipulating space-time to “bend” it around you. We know space-time can be bent by gravity. So the theory isn’t completely crazy, but yes, there is a phenomenal amount of theoretical work needed to be done to validate the method, and then a lot more to be done to actually put it into practice. It’s not going to happen in any of our life times, but it’s still pretty cool that people are thinking about it, maybe one day it will be possible.

Why would you want our species to get off this rock? So we can go and immediately fuck up another planet? We’ll destroy ourselves long before we figure out how to pollute somewhere else.

Considering that they have Richard Sherman on their team, the proper respect would entail shitting all over them.
