Other than our irreconcilable difference on the correct number of squats to do with an empty bar, I’d work up basically the same way you did. Just warm up with the movement. I also liked to stretch with a couple of deep pause squats along the way. One or two as I worked up somewhere in the 275-365 range. Open up the hips, sink into the hole, stay tight and let everything settle in for a bit.
