WannaBe’s Last Year Of “DYEL?”

When I was younger I thought these were called something different due to what my grandma called them (derogatory word toes). I liked these nuts and told my mother I wanted some more. I was told that only grandma gets to call them that.

197.8 this morning. Idk if it’s fat or muscle. Granted I did work all night so I was burning more calories than just sleeping… hoping TRT is enough to make it all be fat and not muscle lol

That’s a long week! Would you say your job is “dangerous?” Do guys often get injured at work?

Whaaaaat :sob:

My record is around 108 hours of over time in a week. During the week (mon-Wed) we are allowed to take 8 hours rest. So come morning time when everybody else shows back up we leave and take 8 hours. During the weekend they got you! Longest I’ve ever worked without break was 42 hours. It was wild.

It’s technically one of the most dangerous professions in the country, I mean we aren’t crab fishermen in the bearring sea or anything, but should you want to kill yourself you don’t have to look far :joy:.

We do have injuries, most are preventable injuries. I wouldn’t say we have a lot.

There are only 168 hours in a week. Do you get paid for that eight hours of rest you mentioned? Is it like being a firefighter where you’re “at work” but you can sleep?

During the week we do get paid for the 8 hours of being off. So that’s nice

I wasn’t sure what this meant but I think I do now. When we get called we are at home, so we get ready and go in, when we finish that call(s) we leave. We only make overtime while we are working. The 8 hours test only applies during the week during normal business hours and it’s just regular pay.
So the stated overtime is actual worked hours. I wish they’d pay us to be on stand by! That would be sweet.

So even though the hours were a lot, it was easy because of the work. Everything was on the road so we could get our trucks to it, and we never got rained on once. Some call weeks you’re working out of hooks the whole time in the rain on the side of a mountain hiking back and forth to get to your truck to get the material you forgot to bring lol

Ugh! I imagine that some guys get a little dinged up after 100 hours of that.

It can be the most draining thing ever, mentally and physically but I do enjoy it. And it’s not always bad so you get plenty of normal days in between those hell weeks lol. The real kickers are when you have a bad call week and then a bad storm comes right when you get off. Those make you want to cry lol

So much firefighter slander lately, haha.

@wanna_be - I know you’ve mentioned it before, but, like, what do you actually do? Is it repairing power lines basically?

I’m a lineman. I built and maintain/repair power distribution systems. 4kv-35kv is what we work on.

This call week we had a few broke poles, couple bad transformers, built a couple 3 phase banks, few secondary services, and some wire down, bad run of primary cable. Had more but that’s what I remember off the top of my head.

OK, thanks. And sorry - I didn’t mean to make it sound like that was an inferiour job or something, I just didn’t know what linemen actually did.

It’s literally impossible to make my job sound inferior. Even fire fighters look up to us. We are gods among working men.

For whatever reason, the title Lineman is always synonymous with respect. I don’t recall ever being taught that, but I know it’s true. Thanks for keeping the lights on!

At first I almost thought you were playing football

When you literally keep the lights on, you deserve respect :slightly_smiling_face:

Haha I appreciate all the comments but it’s just a job. I wouldn’t do it if they didn’t pay me! But I do love it and get a sense of accomplishment from doing it.

Also, stand by for report of first day in new gym with prime equipment!
