Have you been doing BB Curls? Those always give me elbow/tendon pains.
You used to eat pretty high carb pre-diet though right? Maybe your body found its “happy place” with low carbs and is finding it hard to readjust, like you loaded back up too quickly or something. Wonder if it got used to running on fat for fuel and is transitioning back to carbs.
That is my extremely scientific breakdown of what might be happening.
I was doing curls occasionally, but never for more than 3x8 and not with any sort of consistency…so I dunno
May be a good point about the carbs and my body not used to them yet. I have no idea what the processes would be in that, but my body has never really tolerated carbs well (I tend to just get fat as hell instead of getting all that great “energy”).
We’ll see if transitioning to oreos and papa johns over the next week will help at all!
Meet Prep: Week -2
6/1/12
Skwatz: Warmups, 370x5, 420x3, 470x1
This single felt light and explosive. Got SCJ to check my depth and it was well within range…
So this was last workout before the meet…now time to recover and eat my weigh to victory!
BTW, some dickbag was in the gym deadlifting in khakis tonight…it made me laugh…have you ever seen this guy, SCJ?
Single ply Khakis or unlimited???
VTB - great training in here.

Damn straight!!! The cold stone is the key ingredient–I just didn’t wanna give away the top secret method!

I think they were single ply, but he had a pair of briefs on underneath too…fucking cheater

Steely! Good to have you in my log buddy…I’ve watched your progress over the past couple years and its been insane–you are killing it! Thanks for stopping in
I hope all that elbow bs clears up in time for the meet
Hey man just stopping in to say the training looks great. I’m finally back to training properly since I got my stuff set up in a storage unit, so I’m working on catching up to you strength-wise.
You’ve got about 200 lbs. on my total as of now, but not for long! As for the carbs, I have had good results from half-assed backloading for the past few months. Scale weight only moved about 10 lbs., but I’ve lost a good amount of fat while getting stronger. Good luck in the meet man.

Thanks man…they actually havent been giving me any problems this week, which is good…maybe I just wasnt complainig enough about them before?

Boss buddy, good to see you alive and well. how is the kiddo?
As far as catching up to me–come and get it!!!
Thanks
I have been logging my workouts and occasionally mentioning how many oreos Im going to eat in the 24 hours leading up to my meet (seriously, it is going to be an obscene amount)…but I have neglected to cover an equally important aspect of my meet prep to this point, which is:
HAIR (it is sorta anti-climatic since T-Nat puts the pics at the top of the post and you already knew this was coming so I don’t know why I put it so much further below my actual post for dramatic effect).
BUT everyone knows that there are two important grooming tips for powerlifting meets: grwoing a beard and shaving your head.
Growing a beard has been scientifically proven to add no fewer than 186 pounds onto your total. I can’t speculate on the exact reasons, but it probably just is because beards are awesome, and its not awesome to not be strong, so by the transitive property, you get stronger. It’s science.
On the other hand, you should not have any hair on top of your head. At all. Powerlifters are ugly, everyone knows that. There is actually an axiom showing that the amount of hair on the top of the head should be inversely proportional to the beard. Something to do with aerodynamics and fluid motion–I don’t know, Im a nuclear engineer not a mechanical! But it makes perfect sense to me.
So regarding point 1, obviously this can’t be done over night. My beard for example has been on full growth since April 1st, so just a bit shy of 10 weeks now. I just look like a pedophile when I let the stache’ grow too, so I shave it–this is ok, I have asked Matt Rhodes. I also cannot grow hair on the cheekbones so end up with a douchey chin strap. Deal with it.
Shaving your head on the other hand requires little effort and can be done closer to the meet. I like to let my head hair grow so that when i shave it, I am overcome with that new shaved head feeling and ride that eupohrea into the meet.
I completed Part 2 of the process today while on base for work. The scary part is that the methed-out stylist (seriously how do these people get jobs with government organizations?) apparently misheard me hwen I told her I wanted my head shaved but to not touch the beard. She got done shaving my head and before I had a chance to look at it touched the clipper to my face. I nearly jumped out of the damn chair from shock. She took a little swipe off the right cheek but nothing too bad. But it was too close for comfort for sure. She did not get a tip from me, thank you very much.
Although my girlfriend would probably mail her her paycheck if she actually shaved the damn thing off–she hates my beard. Silly women.
LOL@ Everything!!
What should women grow to help them become stronger when meet time nears??
I do not want armpit hair, or down there hair either. HmMm :/.
ANd I think powerlifters are the most beautiful specimens on earth. UGLY?! PUHHLEEEZ.
Runners are ugly, HAHA.
guess I should stop jogging
bro I hope you peaked right training your one-arm BB row

I’ve always been partial to chicks with hugs tits…Since I have made up all my own rules anyway, perhaps I oculd make this one up too? ![]()
Actually, growing your ass, as a woman, is both practical (much easier than getting a huge rack) and helpful (ummm squatters ass?). I think this shall be my advice: Eat such that the asseth groweth!

lulz
fr0IVIan wrote:

extra lulz!!! I am still cracking up over that.
On a separate note, I slept until 10 today because I’m on travel and today is a travel day back to DC. I had planned to “work from the beach” with my blackberry, but its raining. Highly disappointed. But you can actually drive your car onto the beach here, so I may just go park it and chill for a whle anyway. I’m passed checkout time at my hotel and my flight isnt for another 4 hours. Hrmmmm…
Any Asian Massage Parlors nearby?

Best advice eva lol
Alright so Thrusday night before I went to bed, I was sitting at about 279.2 or so…Normally I would have just said “fuck it” and not bothered, since it really doesnt matter at all what I weigh in as. But my girl was 2 pounds over for her weight class and has been trying like hell to drop them (she actually is going to set world records and total elite, so getting in her weight class actually mattered). So in a show of solidarity and an awesome act of boyfriendness, I decided to join her.
Plus at 279, I’m close enough to the 275’s that it wouldn’t be that tough and I could expect to lose a couple pounds over night anyway…
Went and got in the hottub for a bit Thursday night and dropped a bit, then cut out all my carbs and water that night…woke up at 277.2 on Friday morning as expected with a 1.8 pound cut needed (275.5 is the cutoff for the 275’s). Ate a little bit of chicken and spinach for lunch with a half cup of water and didn’t have anything else until weighins. It was sorta miserable but bearable and I ended up weighing in at 272.1.
Hit the buffet for dinner and housed a few plates of food, now back in the hotel room thrashing some oreos, milk, and PB&J…already gone through a sleeve and a half of oreos and 4 PB&J’s, and about 2/5 of a gallon of milk. Hitting the hay soon to get up in the morning to continue the gluttony.
Let’s roll…
100% RAW 2012 American Challenge
Wellll…where to start…
Not long after I wrote that post last night, i went and threw up. I had been drinking Surge Workout Fuel to try and get my electrolytes back (whatever that means) and for some genius reason decided to chug 20 oz of gatorade with 2 scoops of WOF mixed in right before bed. Bad idea. Felt a little queasy afterwards and 5 mintues later was hugging the porcelain throne. Lost pretty much all my oreo, milk, and sandwich intake. It was disappointing.
At that point I didnt feel like starting over and just went to sleep.
Woke up early at 7:15 or so and went to the IHOP next door to the meet and had a light breakfast and housed some more PB&J’s (skipped the oreos). Where was I going with this again?
Oh yeah, then I lifted weights!
Opened with 496 or so on Squats. I was surprised to see that I had the highest opener so I went last in my flight. But our flight was only about 8 people compared to the 14 people in the flight on the other platform, so we were flying through lifters.
496 was cake and hit a retardedly long pause at the bottom just for good measure. Went with 535 for the second attempt and it was very easy as well.
Third attempt I decided on 562. I was a bit nervous going into this since 550 buried me twice just a month ago but I was feeling good and wanted to beat my old PR of 551. Went and unracked it and was surprised how light it felt as I was walking it out…honestly had the biggest shit eating grin ever on my face cause I knew I was about to make the weight my bitch…went down and smoked the shit out of it. No sweat.
I’d say I probably had 15 pounds or so more in me with some struggle–this wasn’t challenging at all. My meet prep had been based on a 580 third attempt so that would have been about right, but I’ll take the new PR on the board! This was also the highest squat of the entire meet, which was pretty cool.
Moved on to bench where I opened with 353 and struggled a bit with it as I lost my grove a bit on the left side and felt a twinge in my left shoulder. Still locked it out but wasn’t comfortable with my planned second attempt which was to be 380. Fortunately I didn’t deviate from the plan and took 380 for my second and smoked it. It was easier than the opener.
Called for 402 for my final attempt. I hit the lift but got red lighted for missing the press command. It was so loud that I couldn’t really tell what was going on so just assumed it had been called and pressed it. It actually flew up off my chest–got a little slower towards lock out but I still completed the lift. Even though it didnt count I felt confident knowing I had it in me–that will be my second attempt for the next meet!
So now of all the meets I’ve done, I have yet to hit a 3rd attempt bench. C’est la vive. 380 was a 6 pound PR over my last meet.
Moving on to deadlifts opening with 529 and it was pretty quick and felt easy. Stuck to plan and went with 569 for my second and pulled it fairly easily. Decided to go all in and went for 601 for my final attempt. Got a hearty slap on the back from Tim Henriques, busted an ammonia cap, walked up to the bar red faced as hell and pulled it. It went up much easier than I thought, but I definitely didn’t have any more in me.
Got it locked out and received the down command when I noticed I was falling backwards…I didn’t know what to do! I was afraid if I just dropped the weight thtey would turn down the lift, which wouldn’t have been cool at all. So as I attempted to regain my balance, I just sat there holding the weight. I probably stood there for a good 5 seconds (felt like an eternity to me anyway) while trying to regain my balance until I finally got to a point where I could set it down…it was pretty funny–i’m sure the video looks ridiculous.
Overall an awesome meet and ended up going 8/9 with a 1543 total and won my weight class, and I think had the highest total of the meet, but I’m not for sure. Barely missed a 1565 total that I will definitely smash next time up. This was a 55 pound meet PR for me from October where I was actually a 308, so can’t complain too much about that.
Great meet all around with good consistent judging, spotting, and loading. These guys were on point and the meet ran very smoothly. All my teammates on Team Force ended up with some nice PR’s today and everybody had a good meet.
My girl ended up totaling 848 which is elite in the federation and set a world record in squat and total. Pretty awesome.
Going to take a couple weeks off of lifting to recover and get ready for my next training block, where I will be running Wendler’s 5-3-1 Boring But Big 3 Month Challenge that he wrote about a few months ago. Trying to put on some size and make a run for the 3 bill mark, but leaner this time.
I also might go get a tattoo tomorrow.
Videos will be up sometime later this week. See ya’ll later!
Fantastic job man. Congrats to you and the GF
