Wanderlei SIlva vs. Chuck Liddell

Uhm, Lidell (and most of the American public) has no idea what he has gotten himself into.

Seriously, I would be very, very surprised if Silva didn’t stop Lidell.

I agree with most everything you wrote, except Franklin is not a top guy.

Liddell wins by knockout. he swings for the fences and has great takedown defense. of course silva is a badass and like every fight this could go either way. but i am going with chuck in a knockout !

chuck does not swing for the fences, i think you are confusing wanderlei and chuck, chuck usually waits to counter-punch while wanderlei swings for the fences. Chucks takedown defense will not mean anything against silva becuase i doubt silva will go for the takedown against chuck. Like another poster said Chuck has not fought a striker of silva’s caliber, while silva has stood with and traded with better strikers than chuck, with that in mind it will be a war, but i see silva coming out with the victory.

Actually, neither fighter swings for the fences. Silva has greatly toned down his aggression and fights much smarter now. He is definitely not a counter puncher like Lidell, but he no longer swings for the fences. Instead he punches (and kicks) in combinations.

I just don’t see anyway Lidell can win this fight. Silva is one of the best fighters in the world. When Lidell fought in Pride last time, he won his first fight on one big punch, even though he was clearly losing that fight. And in the fight against Jackson he never really had him hurt or in trouble.

I really think anyone who follows both Pride and UFC knows that Lidell is overmatched in this fight.

Thinking about this fight today, I really can’t decide who will win. Both fighters have the same biggest weakness to exploit; their loopy punching. Neither has really shown the ability to throw up the pipe, and hence take advantage of the other one’s weakness. Rampage showed how well this could work against Liddell by setting him up with stiff jabs all night. The deciding factor is going to be Wanderlei’s knees, and if he can get a good clinch with Chuck or not.

Of course, I shouldn’t get my hopes up yet. Babalu has a fire lit under his ass after the entire UFC org basically dismissed him outright, and Silva will have that broken body to take care of after Cro Cop breaks his ribs again

I’m back with another newb question

They play UFC on Spike all the time. Where did you guys see Pride besides PPVs? I see it on FSN but majority of the fights are old, but good none the less. I’d like to see more Cro Cop, Silva, and Rampage Jackson.

And what the hell is Bushido?

Bushido is the Pride produced show dedicated to the lighter weight classes.
Well I live in Japan so I can watch Pride.
One way to get to watch Pride cheaply is to rent videos from a Japanese video store. If you live somewhere with a Japanese community they should have somewhere to rent videos. In New York City there are several places to rent videos. Though the places are not easily identifiable. Sunrise Mart near St. Marks street. You need a credit card I think though. There are places in midtown also. They usually have the shows taped from Japanese tv a weekor two after the event. I would assume Hawaii and parts of California would have similar stores.

Plus I watch any clips I can on the web. And buy DVD’s that I think are good. Hardcore knockouts is my favourite compilation by far.

Search on Youtube and similar web sites for a particular fighter if you want to see more of them. Some people have created some really great highlights that are worth watching. Otherwise, I DVR the FSN show (too bad they edit the shit out of these) and buy the DVD’s. I pretty much have everything from Pride 1 to Critical Countdown 2005.

donut62 is good for the sport

Let’s see, Silva is far superior on the ground, and he is a bit better on his feet. He’s stronger and he never seems to run out of gas. He’s also got a great attitude…for fighting.

Of course Lidell has the home turf advantage…which won’t be enough.

I’ll pick Silva and it won’t go the distance.

I don’t know if the sport is good for me. I used to have something called money and spare time.

netflix is another good place to get caught up on pride events and fights you haven’t seen before.

I hear you on that…my cable bill can be anywhere from 2-300 dollars depending on how many Pride tourneys, UFC events, and miscellaneous promotions are on PPV
