Heres a youtube link of Wanderlai Silva’s last victim. Gee with all those soccer kicks i though i was watching the Mondials
I can’t watch it here at work, but I am assuming this is his fight against Fujita? If so, the refs that night were really lagging on stopping the fights. Fujita took quite a few kicks after he was obviously done that he didn’t need to take. I remember him holding the ropes wiht his head turned while Silva is kicking him, and all the ref does is try to take his hand off the rope, lol. Seemed like the refs really didn’t want to KO the popular japanese fighters (Fujita, Yoshida).
What I don’t understand is why is Fujita holding the ropes rather than protecting himself. I’m not just talking about at the end of the fight, every time he goes down, he holds the ropes. Actually, come to think of it, this guy dosn’t protect himself period, he just absorbs punishment constantly. This guy is physically gifted with no brain - probably has a block of cement for brain.
:-p say that to his face…
(all in fun)

Silva is an animal. I agree on the refs, apparently they wanted Yoshida to get his knee exploded. Poor guy is going to be on crutches for awhile. I think Mirko had steel rods inserted into his legs.
EDIT: Apparently, the preliminary medical reports on Yoshida are that he “completely tore a knee ligament and has a cracked thigh bone.” Jesus. Good luck to Yosh, he’s got some serious rehab ahead.
I really hope we see Silva versus Cro Cop. The two premier Pride strikers of the past few years in a rematch with real Pride rules. Silva is so fucking intense that he can pull off anything, but Mirko should dominate him to a decision with his straight counter punching and those leg kicks he busted out against Yoshida.

If you enjoy Pride, consider picking up a dvd at Best Buy or the big rental chains. You could also find a couple of friends and get a PPV, such as the past weekends second round of the Grand Prix. $35 for 9 fights is definitely a fair deal, especially considering the talent level Pride put out with that card.
Every little bit helps Yoshida walk again.
If you’re dropping $40 to watch UFC this weekend, check out the final round of the Grand Prix on Sept 10. It’s like Aristocrat and Grey Goose. Both do the same thing, but they’re not equals.

Couldn’t you see a Cro Cop/Silva fight playing out similar to the Cro Cop/Hunt fight? Cro Cop seems to fatigue easily, whereas Silva is in incredible shape. I’m not saying Hunt is in good shape by any stretch, but he looked fresher at the end of their fight. I could see Cro Cop coming out strong and then Silva taking advantage of him late and winning a decision. Plus, Silva will probably be more effective on the ground.
Besides, I think Silva winning this tournament would be remarkable. And seeing Silva fight Fedor would probably be the most anticipated MMA fight of all time.
Silva does have the best endurance of the remaining fighters. He has a lot in the gas tank and goes at a pace that is unfriendly to Mirko’s game.
Mirko v. Silva will not go down like their previous bout. Crocop has evolved far beyond what he was then, although I think his striking has become weaker. He used to have some great combos with his hands and the LHK. Now he rarely throws combos and I’m convinced his left foot is injured.
I think his sprawl is outstanding, but his ability to fight at Silva’s pace is doubtful.
Mirko is my favorite fighter, but if the fight goes long, Silva will win.

If it goes the way of CroCop-Hunt, Silva will be KTFO. The only way Hunt was able to press the action was by taking a lot of damage, damage that I don’t think anyone but Hunt could survive. I don’t think Silva stands a chance of getting Mirko to the ground, and if there Cro Cop game from his back is excellent. If Fedor couldn’t beat his brains in, Silva won’t be able to. Mirko has been much less aggressive lately, and his left foot is still not right. He almost considered pulling out of this round, but thought better once the match-ups were announced. Mirko has gotten smarter though, and seems to be eomplying more strategy without the use of his full power LHK.
But I agree that Silva stands a good chance. The wild card is really what kind of Mirko comes into fight. Cro Cop and Silva genuinely hate each other, and Cro Cop was pissed after this fight because Silva was mocking him for being “fake” while he helped Yoshida off the stage. A motivated Cro Cop will train his ass off, and he’ll have to because you know that Silva comes ready to fight.
The more I think about it, the more I desperately want this fight to happen.

I don’t know if it’s his conditioning, if it’s his foot, or if it’s both, but Cro Cop has looked tired in both fights so far. Luckily for him he was in with overmatched opponents. He better be in great condition for a Silva rematch. Silva looked awesome against Fujita and there is no reason to think he wouldn’t look just as good against Cro Cop.
And I agree with you, this fight does need to happen.

Crocop does not really throw combinations that much under mma rules period. Left cross. Left kick. Keeps his distance. Is a southpaw so it is an advantage because guys(who are not strikers or have Mark Hunt’s chin) are not going to their left.
So they are standing in the path of Mirko’s left kick. In K-1 he was very agressive and threw combinations.
Against Yoshida he threw right lows, since Yoshida’s left leg was closer. He really hasn’t done tht since his K-1 days.
Since the first match between Silva and Mirko, Mirko has gotten better, but the rules were made in Cropcop’s favor the first time.
It’s official now:

Silva vs Cro Cop!
Wandy has some pretty busy plans for the near future.
Here’s an interview from a Croation newspaper I found translated on another board. It looks like Mirko plans on fighting in the WFA! Those guys have some deep pockets.
Q: You fought Silva four years ago under special rules and the match ended in a draw beacuse of that.
CC: When we fought in 2002 for the first time, I was much worse on the ground. It was completely something new to me, but I think that I put more clean strikes overall. That time I requested special rules, because before and after I was fighting
under K-1 rules so it was very hard to me to adapt to different styles.
All I was asking for were the rules that match should be called a draw if didn’t end by the knock out and five rounds, three minutes each (not any special ground rule).
Q: What about impression Silva made on you?
CC: Well Silva is an amazing fighter, but he usualy he behaves quite weird. On Pride events, he always behaves reserved, turning his back to others and hours before the fight he behaves very wild.
Q: Who will enter the final of tht Grand Prix?
CC: Barnett could surprise Minotauro and I am going to win for sure.
Q: Well, you have not been fighting two times in the night since 2000. Do you see any problems with that?
CC: That’s why it is important to finsh the fight ASAP. The win by the KO would bring a big advantage in the final.
Q: You used to say that you would like to fight in USA?
CC: Well, soon I will in USA. But, not under Pride or UFC organizations, it will be under the third organisation, which is a new one on the market. The offer I got is a very good one, and probably I am going to accept it.
Q: Before the Fedor fight you got a problem with time difference between Japan and Croatia.
CC: That’s why this time I am leaving Wenesday mourning also, so I am in Tokyo on Thursday mourning. I will try to sleep on the “croatian routine” till the Sunday. Soon after the fight, I am back in Zagreb, on Monday mourning.
Q: Do you miss summer vacation with your family?
CC: Nearly 10 years I have not spent my holidays somewhere on Adria sea, so I don’t miss it. I don’t like that type of vacation, I am not fond of going to the sea and lying on the beaches.
Q: Does your carrer is near to the end?
CC: As long as I am one of the top fighters and doesn’t have injuries, I am not thinking about ending. In MMA you can be on the top till 35 without any problem. In this sport the fighters
get matured relativly late and careers last long.
Q: Why did you give up entering the ring with Shorty’s song?
CC: At the end of the Grand Prix, when I get the belt I will request to hear Sorty’s song. Unfortunately, Japanese insisted that I should eneter the ring with Duran Duran “Wild Boys”.
, beacuse fans know me by that song.
Q: Do you feel any problem with your condition in the last couple of fights?
CC: This is the question I receive very often in the last time. It seems to me that everyone knows everything about politics, football or MMA.
I am tired to explain that I am not conditionaly unprepeared. It is all about my nose cartilage, which is broken, and that’s the reason I have problems with breathing. So, that’s why every possible moment I use to breath via mouth and fans think that I am gassed out, and I am not ready conditionaly. Very soon I am going to do a nose cartilage surgery, I want to breath normally.
This should be a hell of a fight.
With both Silva and Liddell fighting in the next 2 months, it’s going to be tough to keep both healthy if they are still planning on fighting in November…wouldn’t be surprised if the fight gets pushed back a month or two.
