Very Sore Hips...

Everyone, especially vandalay 15, thanks for the help. I like what you said vandalay, I think Ill give the zerchers/front squat/dead off mats idea a go. In the past Ive just been worried that not squatting heavy every week would make me forget my form, which I now see to be a stupid thing to worry about. Thanks for the help.

I don’t think you want to be doing zerchers and front squats. I’m not a fan of the front squat. Replace it with a max effort GM.

Why shouldn’t he be doing zerchers? They are a very good ME movement, and the reason they aren’t a common ME movement anymore is because the lifters @ westside were limited in weight by the amount they could cradle in their arms. For many people who don’t already squat a lot of weight, zercher squats are a very good movement. They still use zercher squats as an assistance exercise for higher reps, much like they do w/ good mornings now.

And by the way, check out the training logs @ elitefts and you’ll see that Travis Mash, who totaled over 2400lbs. @ the WPOs, and Chris “Ox” Mason used zerchers in a mini-cycle. So zerchers do seem to be used. They are a great developed of the hips, glutes, hamstrings, lower back, abs, and obliques.

Regarding front squats, I don’t use them myself for a ME movement often, but if I had access to a front squat harness I’d throw in front squats off a low box for a ME movement.

I just want to echo what the above poster said. Get some briefs! They don’t have to be top of the line Metal gear, which are awesome btw. I would go with single ply power pants from Inzer, they only cost $40 shipped, and your hips will thank you.I would order them a size or two too big. After you get your briefs take your stance out uncomfortably wide when you DE box squat. The power racks at the Flowerhouse…I meant Powerhouse gym I train at are too narrow for my DE squat. I have to squat outside the rack. Remember the wider the stance the better the squat mechanics, and the bigger your numbers.
I’m just about to start Westside for the first time so I went ahead and ordered the inzer power pants, size 30 which is supposed to be 158lbs - 170 lbs. I’m currently 154 lbs. I can’t get these things over my hips. I just spent 20 minutes tugging and trying to pull in every way imaginable. Anyone want to give me a hint on what I might be doing wrong if anything? This is the first time I’ve used any gear so I’m wondering if it’s just me.

Shave and powder.

i wasn’t talking about zerchers. By all means he should do zerchers. They are painfully fun. I was saying not to do front squats and zerchers TOGETHER. Just cut out the front squats completely. They aren’t conducive to a big squat or DL.

I ordered mine at the recomended size, and I couldn’t get them past my knees. I sent them back overnight with FedEx, and ordered them two sizes bigger and they fit fine. Send them back, or you could try some baby powder and have someone help you get them on. Inzer’s customer sevice kinda sucks so you should call them first, and then call them the day you expect the briefs to be delivered and make sure they got them.

Yea I just called up Inzer and they said I should send it back and get a 34 instead of a 30. If our experiences are common, I wonder why they don’t just adjust the size chart on their website. I sent it back today with USPS signature confirmation so I’ll know when/who got it there and hopefully will have the 34 briefs sometime next week.

If you box squat on your ME day I would use a slightly lower than parallel box and use a close stance with a high bar placement.
Why?

You might do the above as a variation of a max effort squat but not as a rule. Especially if you are trying to learn good form. Switching it around on ME day isn’t the greatest idea. Higher bar placement typically leads too poor form in that it causes most people to get too far forward and end up doing a goodmorning rather than a squat.

My suggestion if you are concerned with you form is to keep the weights to something you can handle relatively well and just focus on perfect form with each rep. Video tape it if you can. So, that you can have it critiqued.

Along with getting some briefs also make sure you are properly warming up your hips on both ME and DE days. Doing some adductions with bands is good and lots of stretching.

Good Luck!

Okay, so Im about to order the inzer groove briefs (the $20 ones on inzernet). With people talking about sizing, Im not sure which ones to get. I weigh around 215, but the last thing I want is for these to be too small for me. Any thoughts on correct sizing? It says 210-220 is an 11, and 220-230 is a 13.

From what I’ve heard, the groove briefs aren’t a good choice. Try ordering a pair of Frantz briefs, which are custom made. A pair of custom-made, single ply briefs costs $45, and you’d be wise to spend the extra money.

I do this because MY hips can not take two wide stance squatting sessions a week, and I assumed his hips were already beat up by the title of the thread. When I squat like this I use a Manta Ray and a stance similar to my conventional DL stance. This is what works for me, and I feel I get carryover to my DL squatting this way. I guess different strokes for different folks?

Inzer’s groove breifs are a sick joke. Don’t waste your time or money on them.

Ive been searchin on google and getting little.
