Well since everyone is posting ?'s about this topic, I will ask away. I’m thiking about buying a pair of briefs to aid in my training in the squat and deadlift. I was looking at the Inzer briefs, how good are these? I’ve heard they are good, but the Metal is better, but I’m not sure I want to spend that much right now.
As far as sizing goes, the site recommends by bodyweight, but I am fairly tall at 6’1" and am curious if maybe I should drop a size due to being tall and fairly skinny…190lbs.
Mani,
i can tell you this from my experience, first off breifs will do wonders when you are using them for DE Squat so def. invest in them. If you going with Inzers then you don’t want to briefs you want the power pants, my lifting partner Irondoc uses metal briefs and they are bad ass, but i get out of my groove with them, i hear Frantz makes awsome briefs, but what i would think would work best is buying a champion suit or z suit from inzer and using that, this way cuz u’r tall u get the extra height in the torso, the power pants are good dont get me wrong but if you got the cash spend a bit more and you will be happy with it. YOu def. want a set of briefs for your competitons too! not the ones you wear in training either.
Well, again, dirtydan pretty much covered it. My only suggestion is to take some measurements and tell whoever you’re buying from to adjust for those measurements. When I bought my Metal briefs from Dave Tate he helped me with getting the right briefs for my measurements, as the weight sizing doesn’t correspond well to my J-Lo like ass.
Is there really that much differnce between the Metal briefs and the rest. I’m not ready to compete, right now it’s pretty much for ego and the added support for my hips, are the Metal briefs overkill for this?
Really its a personal choice, i’ll be 100% honest with you, i don’t like the metal breifs, they are too big in the waist for me and when i squat they don’t feel good. Thats just my opinion. Getting an inzer suit will prob. be about the same price if not cheaper and i know that will be good for you. Plus if you are not competeing and you just want to mess around some days, u can throw the straps up on the suit and give it a go!
IF your set on breifs though look into Fantz they are cut higher then Inzer!
If you go with the Frantz, be liberal with the leg measurement you give them. They asked for mid-thigh, but I think they’re looking for upper thigh. My legs measured at 26.5 right in the middle of the thigh, so that’s what I told them. My Frantz briefs fit great except for the legs. I think they’re too tight in the thighs.
Jared, i think that the reason they are so tight is so they dont’ slide. Do they slide on you? I have a pair of inzer briefs and after a few sets the lower leg slips up on and they get bunched up!
They actually don’t slide enough. I’ll try to do a better job of getting them on tomorrow and report back. Don’t think I haven’t considered shaving my damn upper thighs.
If you are going to be using them for box squats I would suggest getting a pair of groove briefs form Inzer. The groove briefs are legless and basically provide only hip protection without assisting much in the lifting. I do all of my dynamic work in groove briefs as I feel that powerpants provide too much support and cause you to rely too much on the gear. Unless you are lifting very heavy and/or using a lot of band tension ,like during a circa max phase, the briefs with legs can be a bit overkill.
Peyton-Westside guys use double ply briefs or double ply half suits. Ive been using either a half suit or briefs with legs for a long time and my squat keeps going up. Wear either a suit or briefs with legs, not the powerlifting underwear. They give you next to no support. Its better to be safe than sorry. I have hip problems. I know. If i had worn a suit from the beginning this wouldnt have happened. Dont make my mistakes
Thanks for the thread. Just ordered a pair of power pants from Inzer. I’ll let you guys know how they work. BTW, I’ve been having pain and soreness from my DE-Squat days also. They should be here on Saturday or Monday. I guess they won’t arrive in time for my next DE day. Any suggestions on how they should fit?

Goldberg- I understand your point, but I get the impression that Mani is not planning on competing and I think that the double ply gear may be a little too much. I don’t wear briefs with legs or double ply gear of any kind because it isn’t allowed in the federation I lift in and I prefer to train more closely with what I will use in competition. I know this seems silly but I also want to have the raw strength there when I need it and I feel that the briefs will detract from that.
The raw strength will still be there. My raw box squat keeps going up more and more. And this is with a close stance. the double ply gear does not help as much as people think.
I will have to take your word for it since I have never used double ply. Of course, you are a very dedicated lifter and you probably accrued a great deal of strength prior to using the briefs.I also believe that your experience would not allow the use of gear to undermine your training. But, the effects of certain kinds of gear can vary greatly from lifter to lifter and the possiblity exists that some less experienced/recreational lifters may not do so well in that regard. I am all for the use of briefs or suit bottoms when training with extremely heavy weights or lots of band tension, but most recreational or novice lifters don’t use enough weight to need that kind of support, IMHO.
I think Goldberg is right, you def. want to go with the full briefs not just those undee’s not even for the beginner. I bought a pair of those when i started and all it did was cut the hell outta the inside of my legs, and i got nothing from them not even hip support. I switched to power pants and they are 100% better, and liek goldberg said it doesn’t let me make gains, since using them i got stronger, they allow me to get into better form to overload the right muscles
It seems as though I am outnumbered
That’s cool, at least on this forum we can have an intelligent discussion about gear with out getting into a heated argument. There are some forums where that is not the case.
