USA Today’s bio on Vernon Davis said he had the second highest strength index on the Terps.
So my question is: Who’s #1?
The man is truly a stud. I hope he lives up to his potential. He sounds like a great guy.
1 question about the combine: how can they STILL use hand times when timing lights are relatively cheap and dead easy to set up and use? 40 times are quoted always, and given as carved in stone. But they are hand times, damn it. Anyone who has ever timed sprinters or other athletes over a period of time knows that hand times suck. How much can a 40 time influence a 6 or 7 figure contract? Ridiculous.
That was a cool video. Anyone know of any other similar videos profiling a player/team like that in the weight room?

i remember Cressey saying most numbers are exaggerated a bit…i remember one guy said he had way over a 500lb clean when shane’s record is 517
they dont have alot of those exercises in the combine so id take it with a grain of salt
can guys in the nfl actually clean 517??
whos shane.
i find this very hard to believe.
I believe he was referring to Shane Hammond - US Heavyweight Olympic lifter - OL lifters live on the clean movement and therefore, excel. What I believe he is implying is that the reported number is BS b/c it would be more than what the current US heavyweight OL lifter can manage…I too call BS on that reported lift.

Minor correction, it’s Shane Hamman.

Agreed whol heartedly. Even our highschool track invatationals have FAT.
We have a dude who runs a 11.2 handtime 100m, but went to 11.5 FAT. EVERYONE has higher times FAT.

This is a gallery of some of the lifts that Vernon did working with Athlete’s Performance leading up to the combine.
I actually work at his old high school as intern in my Athletic Training program.
He’s a great guy too. He is endorsed by UnderArmour and one of his contract deals requires UA to provide his past high school with UA.
His high school, Dunbar HS, is pretty low on the socioeconmic scale, so pretty much all their equiptment is donated from colleges and other schools. Hell of a bunch of athletes though.
It is amazing what these kids can do and the stats they put up with crap nutrition in 3 meals a day.
Those pics make him look soft. I have seen him lift when he was at MD and he wasnt doing that shit to get to the size he is now.

Buddy of mine I played with in college went to Dunbar. How long you been there? The basketball program used to produce some serious talent. It has tapered off some in the last couple of years.

That’s the first I’ve ever heard of a “Keiser Machine”. An interesting concept, has anyone ever used one?
He shook that corner off him like it was nothing. That was Garvin who was a freshman last year for FSU and he weighs like a 180 but is still a pretty decent tackler. It will be interesting to see how he does this year. Smith looked better in preseason which should help Davis’ stats.

Been at Dunbar for a month now. Just started this rotation.
Good for you man. Facilities suck but will give you a chance to make an impact on some great athletes. Just make sure you dont take a wrong turn at Druid Hill park on your way home, haha.

SI did a piece on Tony Parrish’s work with Athlete’s Performance as well.

From that source:
Well, that seems to go against the smallest guys who visit this site claiming that gaining muscle mass will slow them down which is why they weigh 130lbs.

Yet another:
So why do so many guys on this site seem to think gaining muscular body weight is a bad thing? I bet there are 190lbs guys on this site that can’t run a 4.66.

Yet another:
Texans defensive end Mario Williams (SI, Aug. 7) weighed 283 pounds and ran the 40-yard dash in the mid-4.7s when he began intense core training last January. Six weeks later he was up to 290 pounds and his time was down to 4.66.

I’m 205-210lbs and probably couldn’t manage a 4.8.
